Today we’d like to introduce you to Olya K
Olya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started singing while in preschool in my native Bulgaria. We also sang at school and at few talent competitions with my sister Nelly. Then as a teenager, I would write some poetry, which later progressed into songwriting. I remember at age of 12 being certain I’ll be a singer, and my dream came true. I wanted to focus on English while in high school so I can prepare for my future of international singer.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I started in Bulgaria where I performed with cover bands at first, before recording my Bulgarian pop album “Yellow Roses”. Prior to that, I also sang in the style of Pop folk with a group called Pirin Fest. It was hard choosing between being a Pop singer or a Folk singer and that created some turbulence and some wrong business decisions at the time. Anyway, I have some great memories and I worked with some great names.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know? What sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is that I was born in Bulgaria. I always wanted to be a singer. My first US cover band was named O-Yeaz. I met them in Chicago, and they were a huge milestone for my confidence. Then later, I lived in Nashville for nearly eight years. There I wrote my song “Waking up in Nashville ” I was a guest in some local TV shows and was featured in the Nashville music guide magazine. I believe that a good song is a good song, regardless the style. My latest song is in the style of Dance-Pop and it’s called “Hollywood ” and is available in all online music stores.
My latest song “Hollywood ” is already getting a radio play in Europe and in US
I wish I have access to the best resources in terms of arrangers, players, recording studios, support and representation…all the resources available to signed artists.
I can also write songs for other singers.
Languages I can sing in:
English
Russian
Bulgarian
Serbian
Greek
Italian
Spanish
I would like to inspire others. My songs don’t carry a time stamp, it’s hard to tell when “Hollywood” was recorded. And I hope it stays this way.
I want my songs to appeal to people ages 9 to 109
Just as were the songs of ABBA, Elvis, Beatles, and Linda Rondstat
What were you like growing up?
While growing up, I was an introverted child, but I always loved music. I’ve heard somewhere that many entertainers are actually introverts who have learned to act as extroverts. But we need more time to recharge. My father had a chance to travel and I’m thankful I was exposed to different styles of music while growing up. I admire artists like Lady Gaga who bring social awareness to mental illness. I also have mental illness in my family. So my goal is to stay artistically motivated and healthy. And to inspire others to be their best.
