Meet Sharon Ezra of Grand Mutual Insurance Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Ezra.

Sharon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
From the very beginning, I always wanted to be a full-time stay-at-home mom so I could spend time with my kids, but I also wanted to find something to do part-time from home that would bring in some extra money. I decided to get my insurance license and started out selling health and life insurance and running my business from home. I did this as my own agency for ten years, but I never expected it to grow the way that it did.

When my kids grew up and became more independent, there came a point when I realized that I couldn’t continue running the business from home the way that I was, and as serendipity would have it that’s when I was approached by Eli Tene to join the Peak Family of companies as a partner for Grand Mutual Insurance Services. This was the perfect opportunity to move forward so I made a decision, which ultimately ended up being one of the best decisions I have made to date.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all, it’s been very challenging and it’s a huge change making the move from running a home business to the corporate world. It’s a completely different culture, the process of completing paperwork is different, there are measurements and accountability to think about, milestones for success, reporting and learning how to manage employees, becoming a business-oriented manager while also being a people person – it’s juggling a lot all at once.

Learning the politics behind everything and the structure of the organization was a big hurdle to overcome at the beginning.

It was also tough to let go of control and learn to delegate tasks to my team. Remember, I was very used to working for myself and doing it all, so I had to learn that not everything will be done my way, which is ok, and that there is no one good way for things to be done. We’re a very efficient team, but everyone has their own work ethic and ideas, so I had to develop a protocol that allows the employees to have autonomy within a strict structure to ensure we all follow the same industry guidelines.

The support from the executives at Peak has also been incredible and they have been instrumental in guiding me through the readjustment in a quick and efficient manner.
