Meet Shara Prophet of Open Door Hypnosis in Tarzana and Playa del Rey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shara Prophet.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It has been a series of crossroads throughout my entire life that led me to energy based healing work. I have always been very spiritual and felt I was being led through life by a higher force. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I certainly didn’t expect my life’s work to be centered around hypnotherapy. So, I guess you could say it was my calling and it found me. Now, I can see it was all a part of the “Divine Design” as I like call it.

I moved from Washington, DC to Los Angeles thirteen years ago, initially to be a songwriter. I worked in music publishing at several major music companies and sang in a rock band for about seven years. Then, I worked in the food industry as a personal chef and packaged food manufacturer. It was during the time I was trying to get my food product to market that I came to another crossroad. I was trying to figure out if I should keep moving forward with my food business or not since it was draining me financially.

One day I saw an ad on Facebook for the HMI College of Hypnotherapy and it caught my eye. I had considered hypnosis when I was trying to quit smoking and I would listen to hypnosis tracks for self-improvement on YouTube, but I never considered it as a profession. Even after seeing the ad, it still took me almost two years to enroll in HMI’s intensive hypnotherapy program. I remember the first couple weeks of school, sitting in class I heard my little voice say “This is going to be very good for you. Trust us.” And they were so right. Saying yes to this work is the best decision I have ever made.

I learned about how the mind works and how hypnosis can help people make life changing behavior modifications that improve their health and overall quality of life. I used hypnosis to help me lose 40 lbs. and break through some mental and emotional barriers that were holding me back from excellence. Now, I have a successful private practice with two locations in the Los Angeles area, I am an Instructor of hypnotherapy at the HMI College, and I go around doing talks and workshops teaching the masses how changing their minds can change their experience. It truly does feel like a dream.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I must say the road got a lot smoother once I started doing this work. I definitely experienced some struggles along the way. I grew up in Washington, DC in the 80s during the crack/cocaine epidemic which hit the Black community hard. I saw my neighbors and family members struggle with addiction and lose everything, and I witnessed a lot of violence. At a very young age, I saw the darker side of life and had to make a conscious decision to choose and stay on the right path. I always knew there were amazing things waiting for me in my life. I just had to stay alive and clear-headed long enough to get to that place, and by the grace of God, I did.
I also struggled financially. I had to grow up fast so I did a lot of things earlier in life, like rent an apartment, buy a car, use credit cards etc. I never had a problem getting money, I just didn’t know how to manage it because I didn’t understand it. After years of studying energy psychology, metaphysics, Law of Attraction, and hypnotherapy, I have come to realize money is an energy. The issues many of us have around money is attached to family beliefs, and emotional traumas carried over from childhood. Once I started healing those old wounds, I formed a new healthy relationship with the energy we call money.

Open Door Hypnosis is my private hypnotherapy practice. It’s a place where you can come to reconnect with yourself and heal on a deeper level in a safe and nurturing environment. In each session, my goal is to educate my client, establish a good rapport, and ensure you leave feeling fantastic, light, and relaxed because it increases the success of your results.

My specialty is Past Life Regression and Transformational Hypnotherapy. Past Life Regression: Sometimes symptoms occur within our bodies that cannot be explained by a doctor, and is said to be “all in your head”. This is because there is no physiological or psychological explanation or cause of the issue. In this case, Past Life Regression is a great way to tap into the body’s cell memory and explore any past traumas. Past Life Regression is a technique I use in hypnotherapy to gain a better understanding of and heal issues affecting the mental, emotional and physical bodies. In past-life therapy, the main goal is to uncover and discover the origin of the issue. When the core issue is resolved, the symptoms will often go away. It is through PLR that the “root cause” of the symptom, disease, or injury can be detected.

Transformational Hypnotherapy: I use transformational hypnotherapy to unlock the doorway of your mind and remove blocks that keep you from living your best life. This technique integrates boosting motivation, building confidence, removing obstacles, and reconnecting with your inner power to help you achieve overall health, success, and happiness. Transformational hypnotherapy can help you create your superior quality of life by reducing stress, shedding unwanted pounds, overcoming fears and anxieties, quitting smoking, improving your love relationships, performing better at work, school, in sports and so much more.

I believe every person has the power and Divine right to create the life they desire. All they require are the tools to do so. Hypnosis is that tool. I understand and respect the power of hypnosis. What were you like growing up?
I was a quiet kid. I didn’t get into a lot of trouble unless my little cousins were around. I had a lot of friends but I always felt like I didn’t quite fit-in. Since I’m an only child I spent a lot of time playing by myself. That gave me the space to create all these crazy fantasies and worlds that I would experience through my Barbies and other dolls. I was very artistic, I loved to read, and watch cooking shows. I was a huge fan of Jacques Pepin and Julia Child, and the Cajun chef Justin Wilson and Jeff Smith from The Frugal Gourmet were my absolute favorites. I loved, loved music. I grew up in a musical household, my Mom and her siblings used to sing a lot. I would sit in the basement for hours and listen to Prince, Sade, and Hall and Oates and just stare at the backs of their album covers and sing along to the songs.
