Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannique Austin.
Shannique has been in the beauty business for over 20 years. Known today as the talented, lash artist ‘it-girl’ providing lash services for women and high profile celebrities in the SoCal area, she’s always been deeply inspired by the beauty industry. At 19, she received a Bobbi Brown makeup book and from there was hooked. Her career officially took off in Santa Monica as a junior artistic member for Sebastian International, the go-to and innovative beauty brand of its time. There she brought hair styles and makeup looks to life for runway. As a quickly growing talent, she discovered the beauty industry was where she was meant to be. No dream was too big, and the possibilities seemed endless.
Making her dreams come true and inspiring unprecedented confidence for her clients is exactly what she’s been doing for the past decade. After building her resume—studying at the International Dermal Institute and having worked with major industry visionaries—she opened her own business at the end of 2014: Glam Spa by Shannique. Her inspiration has come from the belief that beauty is more than a look. It’s a feeling to inspire. Through eyelash extension artistry, and full beauty services, her and her team aim to enhance the unique, natural beauty of every individual, enable unprecedented confidence, and empower women everywhere. Her clients love her eyelash extensions, labeling her “Amazing at her craft… The best in the business… A rare combination of talent and fun who ‘builds women up’ and ‘knows her glam!’” Of her eyelash artistry, in particular, clients have called her work: “Life changing… With incredible effects on my appearance…” and “…Amazing at making the lashes unique to you.” For Shannique and the team she leads, there’s nothing more rewarding then the amazing relationships they’ve built with their clients, and most of all how beautiful they feel at the end of their appointment.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not an easy road. During the recession, business was tough, but the team was able to stick through it and persevere. The beauty industry is a tough one too.
My drive to succeed and my inspiration in beauty motivated me to start and grow my own business.

Glam Spa by Shannique is run by my talented protege, Shayna Overton and myself. Known best for our eyelash artistry, and lovers of all things beauty, we aim to bring forth the natural, stunning you.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory was spending time with my grandparents, particularly in the morning watching my grandmother get ready from head to toe. From her beauty routine to her wardrobe, she was always ready to perfection. So much so, that even when she was having a bad day, she never showed it. Her makeup was always completely flawless. Her style and her outfits were never without beautiful accessories that set her apart from the crowd. I’d watch people stare as she’d pass by, as if almost to say, “Who is that woman?!” She is still a Goddess! Even though Grandpa is no longer here, she still dresses to impress–I think as though he were still here.
