Today we’d like to introduce you to Scot Little Bihlman.
Hi Scot Little, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started playing music around 14. I got intensely passionate about music at that time. I started with guitar and moved onto drums and then singing. I devoured all different genres of music, but leaned towards rock. I worked with my dad on his fishing charter boat and he introduced me to outlaw country music. Having dyslexia, I wasn’t a good student, so I played football and got a college scholarship. But, I chose to go to Hollywood and study at Musicians Institute instead due to my love of music and academic struggles. I played the Sunset Strip, and then went to Chicago where I played with legendary Blues heavyweights. I shared the stage with Koko Taylor, Lonnie Brooks, Son Seals, Junior Wells, and Buddy Guy. I recorded with Son Seals and Trey Anastasio (Phish) on “Lettin’ Go” produced by Jimmy Vivino, which won the WC Handy Award that opened a lot of doors for me. After that, I toured internationally and domestically with him, and played at The White House with him also. From there, I worked with producer Jim Gaines. I also went on the road with Ray Charles, Buddy Guy, ZZ Top, and Ted Nugent as a supporting act. Then I got signed to Warner Chapel Music along with other publishing houses where I got music placements on everything from “Sons of Anarchy” to “Days of Our Lives” – over 30 placements – garnishing Emmys. While at Cherokee Studios as a singer-songwriter, I had 8 songs in a movie staring Betty White, and recorded an album for a documentary that won an Emmy. Shortly after that, I recorded with Dug Pinnick and our new band, Grinder Blues, and released two separate records with Megaforce Records and Metalville Records. We toured domestically and internationally. Then, I went to Nashville, did session work, and recorded, toured and made videos with Jelly Roll. I’ve been in LA off and on for years, and have worked with incredible artists, such as recording with John Fogerty at his studio, Lost Canyon. I just played Sturgis’ Full Throttle Saloon during the Harley-Davidson biker rally with Danny Koker of “Kount Kustoms” on the History Channel. I have also been working under the name “Little Bilhman” and released “The Legend of Hipster Billings” with Metalville Records. Recently, I had three of my songs featured in the Amazon Prime hit TV show “Cross.” As a teacher and educator, I have published a book titled “Total Blues Drummer” with Alfred Publishing, and coming soon, a memoir called “Zen Tones,” with Books We Love Publishing. As a SAG member, I have done commercials, and print ad work with Harley-Davidson and Ducati to name a few.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having signed record and publishing deals, I’ve learned how easy it is to fall into the trap of people breaching contracts right from the start. Navigating the entertainment industry is a delicate balance—ultimately, all you can do is commit to the process and let go of the outcome. It can be a thrilling journey if you keep your expectations in check and, most importantly, honor your end of the deal.
When deals fall through, try to maintain a positive mindset—it’s all part of the learning curve. You can walk away wounded or wise; how you choose to process it is entirely up to you. Development deals are virtually nonexistent now, especially with major labels. Even if you’re signed to one, you’re still expected to manage your social media, create content, tour, and perform.
It’s a tough business, but if you truly love what you do, then at the end of the day, you’re already winning.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets me apart is my versatility and experience as a seasoned singer, guitarist, and drummer. My musical journey has taken me from intimate venues to large arenas, small towns to medieval castles—even to performances at The White House. I’ve worked alongside iconic artists and local unknowns, spanning genres from blues, rock, and grunge to folk and country.
I believe in staying sharp, regardless of the gig. Musicianship, respect for the craft, and being a true team player are essential—whether I’m leading a project or supporting another artist. Mutual respect and shared purpose are always at the heart of any successful collaboration.
I’m currently preparing to release a new album, Heavy Head, in fall 2025, in collaboration with media company, V13, and producer Miles Fulwider—who also produced my last solo album, The Legend of Hipster Billings, released under the name Little Bihlman on MetalVille Records. I also perform with Grinder Blues on Megaforce/Sony Records, alongside Dug Pinnick of King’s X.
In addition to music, I’m a published author with BWL Publishing. My memoir, “Zen Tones,” explores my journey through the music industry, and how Zen principles have helped me navigate its highs and lows. It’s scheduled for release in July 2025.
What’s next?
I’ll be on tour this summer in support of my record Heavy Head! You can find concert updates at www.scotbihlman.com. In addition to touring, I’m continuing work in the studio and offering instruction based on my book, “The Total Blues Drummer,” published by Alfred Music.
Here is the Alfred Publishing description; “The Total Blues Drummer is an exciting journey through the diverse world of blues drumming. It covers many of the styles that make blues drumming so rewarding—from the blues sounds of Chicago, Memphis, and Texas to funky blues, jazz blues, and blues-rock. You’ll learn drumbeats in the vein of famous artists like Buddy Guy, B. B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Muddy Waters, and ZZ Top. Beginning and intermediate players will find all the tools they need to become great drummers, while more advanced players will find a fresh perspective and expert tips on the art of blues drumming.”
“It’s hard to imagine a more informative and fun blues drumming book than this one.”
– Modern Drummer magazine
I’m also available for Zen counseling sessions for anyone interested in exploring meditation techniques and opening their mind to spiritual awakening. Here is one of my favorite spiritual quotes:
“Belief clings. Faith lets go.”
