Meet Sarah Nearis of SN Styling in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Nearis.

Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had always had a love of fashion and taking creative direction which lead me to personal styling and shopping in Boston where I am from. I always had a dream to do celebrity styling which then pushed me to move to LA almost six years ago. I started at the bottom as an intern and worked my way up to 2nd and 1st assistant until I started taking clients of my own.

I’ve been lucky to have learned from some of the most respected stylists like Penny Lovell, Jason Rembert, and Maryam Malakpour and worked with clients such as Katy Perry, Natalie Portman, and Mariah Carey.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When it comes to celebrity styling, one thing I have learned to be true is that at any given point, anything that could possibly go wrong most likely will. From a zipper breaking right before the client leaves for the carpet, a dry cleaners damaging a dress the day of a shoot or an outfit you need desperately gets held in customs for an unforeseen amount of time… the list can go on and on but what will make you excellent at your job and keep getting hired is how you make the client happy in the best or worst situations. You have to learn how to problem solve and think quick on your feet without showing any sign of panic. It took me a long time to get to where I am today and I am so grateful for the long days and the good and the bad situations that shaped who I am as a person and as a stylist.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
As a wardrobe stylist, it is my job to take creative direction for all things fashion and accessories whether it be for a clients red carpet premiere or for a photo shoot. I am known for celebrity styling where I select the clothing for my client for any event he/she may have but also have experience in design and consulting as well.

What were you like growing up?
I have always been the creative type from day one. Whether it was making outfits from of my grandmothers closet or sketching and painting, I was always doing one of the two. I am very independent and began working at the age of 13 at a Greek family restaurant so I always had my own money because financial freedom was always important to me. When it came to school, while I admire those who excel at it and enjoy attending like my older sister, was never my thing. I knew what I wanted to do and I just felt like it held me back from being out there working and moving ahead. I skipped a lot of class in high school and college (sorry mom and dad) because I knew that what I needed to learn to be a stylist wasn’t going to be taught in a classroom. A lot of people didn’t agree with my decision to leave college and move to LA but that only fueled the fire in my belly more and I’d like to think I proved everyone wrong.

Knowing Sarah personally I want everyone to know who she is. Sound like a cliche, but “beautiful inside and out” is the plain truth with this amazing young woman. Full of love, hope and perseverance … always!
