Meet Sam Wolfson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Wolfson.

Sam is the co-author of JEWTOPIA, the longest-running comedy in Off-Broadway theatrical history, and Los Angeles theatrical history. There have been hundreds of other JEWTOPIA productions in cities throughout the US and Canada. The play also spawned a best-selling book, JEWTOPIA: THE CHOSEN BOOK FOR THE JEWISH PEOPLE, which was released in 2006 by Time Warner Books. In 2008 and 2009, Sam and his JEWTOPIA co-author toured the country in an original stand-up comedy show entitled JEWTOPIA: LIVE, a sequel of sorts to JEWTOPIA, which generated over 1,000,000 dollars in ticket sales.

In 2012, JEWTOPIA: THE MOVIE went into production starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jon Lovitz, Tom Arnold, Rita Wilson, Jamie Lynn Siegler and Wendie Malick. On the TV side, Sam has sold multiple pilots to various network and cable channels including CBS, FOX, TBS, and the Disney Channel. He’s currently a writer/producer on Disney Channel’s number one live-action show, ANDI MACK.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road. There are still challenges every single day with work, and writing, and working in TV. The hope is to be at work with amazing, cool people that you don’ t mind sitting in a room with all day, 10 hours a day. And I’m very lucky to have that right now on Andi Mack.

Please tell us about a.
I mostly write for TV, but occasionally try to write a movie, that usually isn’t very good. Which is probably why they don’t sell! I much prefer to write for TV which is more steady and collaborative.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Stealing a candy bar from a deli, having my mother catch me doing it, and making me return it. I was crying the entire time, even during the apology.
