Meet Ryan Anderson of The Anderson Collective LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Anderson.

Hi Ryan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my career in the entertainment industry with a specialization in risk management and finance, which provided me with invaluable insights into the inner workings of successful companies. This exposure allowed me to understand not only the intricacies of financial operations but also the broader challenges faced by creatives. During this formative period, I recognized a significant issue: many artists and creatives were not receiving the support they required to thrive. This realization ignited a deep passion within me for a more direct involvement in the entertainment sector, particularly in collaborating with artists in the music industry. What initially started as a commitment to assist a close friend over several years ultimately inspired me to pursue a dedicated career in artist management and development.

Recently, I have taken a significant step forward in my professional journey by becoming an Executive A&R at Mantra Publishing. This role has empowered me to advocate more vigorously for creatives, as I actively work to secure placements for songwriters and producers. In this capacity, I leverage my industry knowledge and connections to identify opportunities that can enhance the visibility and viability of the artists I represent. Additionally, I have recently joined the Recording Academy as a member, a move that further strengthens my commitment to advocating for fairness and equity for creatives within the music industry. This affiliation provides me with a platform to engage with industry leaders and contribute to the ongoing dialogue about the rights and recognition of artists.

My background in finance within the film industry has equipped me with essential skills that I apply to assist artists and creatives in their brand development journeys. By leveraging my MBA from Pepperdine, combined with practical, real-world experience, I have been able to deliver substantial value to the artists I work with. My approach transcends traditional creative support; I am dedicated to educating them about their critical role in managing their own businesses, emphasizing the importance of financial literacy and strategic planning.

In my current role at Mantra Publishing, I focus on finding innovative ways to help creatives recoup their investments while simultaneously pushing them to reach their full potential. I believe that by fostering a collaborative environment and encouraging open dialogue, we can unlock new pathways for success, enabling artists to navigate the complexities of the industry with confidence.

As the music industry has evolved significantly over the years, I have devoted considerable time to advocating for creatives, ensuring fair treatment for songwriters and producers. My efforts include fighting for equitable publishing rights, making certain that songs are properly registered, and supporting initiatives that promote transparency and fairness in the industry. Ultimately, my mission is to empower artists to present themselves effectively, equipping them with the necessary tools, knowledge, and resources to navigate the complexities of the music business and secure their rightful place within it. By championing the rights of creatives and striving for a more equitable industry, I am committed to making a lasting impact on the landscape of music and the lives of the artists I work with.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The music industry has always been a complex landscape, filled with both exhilarating highs and challenging lows. As a manager, navigating this terrain has proven to be anything but straightforward. One of the primary hurdles I’ve faced is the sheer diversity of personalities and backgrounds among the artists and teams I’ve worked with. Each individual brings their own vision, ambitions, and sometimes, conflicting ideas about what success looks like.

Additionally, the industry is notorious for its unpredictability. Trends can shift overnight, and what was once considered a hit can quickly fade into obscurity. This has forced me to be adaptable, constantly reassessing strategies and finding new ways to promote the artists I work with.

Moreover, the pressure to deliver results is immense. Stakeholders, from record labels to fans, have high expectations, and balancing these demands while maintaining a positive working relationship with artists can be a tightrope walk. There are moments of creative differences, where artistic integrity clashes with commercial viability, leading to difficult conversations.

Financial instability is another reality of the industry. Budgets can be tight, and securing funding for projects often requires navigating complex negotiations. Artists may become disheartened by the slow pace of progress or the uncertainty of their careers, which adds another layer of challenge to my role as a manager.

Despite these obstacles, working in the music industry can be incredibly rewarding. Witnessing an artist’s growth and success, especially after overcoming adversity, makes the journey worthwhile. Each experience, whether positive or negative, contributes to my development as a manager, teaching me resilience, empathy, and the importance of building strong relationships. Ultimately, while the road has been bumpy, it has shaped my passion for music and my commitment to supporting artists in realizing their dreams.

We’ve been impressed with The Anderson Collective LLC , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Anderson Collective LLC is not merely an artist management company; it is a dynamic incubator that empowers artists and creatives to thrive. As an independent A&R consulting firm, we adopt a holistic approach to artist development, ensuring that every creative voice is not only heard but valued. Our mission is to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity, fostering a supportive environment that encourages collaboration and innovation.

I have the privilege of managing some of the most exceptional talents in the industry, including the renowned Los Angeles rapper Casey Veggies, whose unique style and lyrical prowess have significantly impacted the hip-hop landscape. Complementing him is Jesse Leprotti, a gifted singer-songwriter celebrated for his Grammy-winning work on “Moonlight,” performed by Chris Brown. Jesse’s artistry resonates deeply, making his contributions to the music world both inspiring and impactful.

Additionally, we manage Trev Rich, a rapper and songwriter known for his Grammy-nominated track “Elevate,” featured in the soundtrack of the film “Spider-Man: Across The Spiderverse,” alongside DJ Khaled. Trev’s impressive portfolio includes songwriting for major artists such as NLE Choppa, Saweetie, and G-Eazy, showcasing his remarkable versatility and creative depth. Moreover, we represent Vendetta Lust, an emerging artist who has shared the stage with international pop sensation Kiiara. Vendetta’s music blends influences from Post Malone and Kid Laroi, resulting in a fresh sound that captivates audiences.

At the Anderson Collective, we take pride in fostering a familial atmosphere. Each member of our team is not only a talented artist but also a collaborator, eager to share ideas and support one another. This interconnectedness allows us to create unique and authentic music that resonates with listeners. We firmly believe that when artists uplift each other, the entire collective flourishes.

What sets us apart is my personal journey as a creative. Growing up playing the piano and receiving a vocal scholarship that funded my college education has provided me with firsthand insight into the challenges and triumphs that artists, songwriters, and producers face daily. This experience enables me to empathize with their struggles and guide them with insights drawn from my own experiences in the music industry.

At the Anderson Collective, we are committed to nurturing talent, fostering collaboration, and empowering our artists to reach their full potential. Together, we are not just creating music; we are building a lasting legacy.
