Meet Rosalind Guder of Rosalind Guder Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalind Guder.

Hi Rosalind, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
This chapter of my story really began in 2013, when my sister gave me her old camera. I started playing with it in my spare time, teaching myself how to use the camera and Photoshop. At the time, it was just curiosity—but it awakened something creative in me.

By 2019, I decided to fully commit. I poured myself into creating fine art and exploring how far I could push dramatic portraiture. Very quickly, the work gained international recognition: I began winning major awards around the world, was featured in Professional Photographer magazine, and even had the honor of representing Team USA at the World Photographic Cup. It was dizzying and affirming all at once.

From there, my mission expanded. I began teaching masterclasses to other photographers, showing not just my lighting and editing techniques, but my whole process from conception to finished artwork. Sharing knowledge became just as important as creating—it was my way of helping raise the standard of professional photography.

At the same time, I built a boutique portrait business dedicated to creating transformative experiences for clients. I specialize in empowering women—especially those over 40—to see themselves in a bold, beautiful new light, and I also create fine art family portraits designed to become cherished heirlooms. For me, the client experience is as meaningful as the finished image. That combination of artistry, education, and impact has shaped everything I do today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Photography is actually my second major career, after years in high-level sales and management consulting. Starting over meant humbling myself to become a beginner again—learning the technical side of the craft, the artistry, and also how to build a business in a completely new industry.

One of the hardest parts was trusting myself enough to put my work out there. When I entered my first competitions, it was terrifying to have my images judged. But each critique became fuel. That willingness to take risks is what accelerated my growth, and it’s part of why Professional Photographer magazine described my rise as “rapid.”

There were also the practical struggles: balancing the art with running a business, marketing to clients, and keeping up with international standards of excellence. But every challenge became a lesson in adaptability. Reinventing myself taught me that failure isn’t an endpoint—it’s a stepping stone. And that mindset has allowed me not just to create award-winning art, but also to build a portrait business that truly empowers and transforms my clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Rosalind Guder Photography?
Rosalind Guder Photography is a boutique portrait studio specializing in transformative, fine art–inspired portraits. I work with women—especially those over 40—and with families who want artwork that feels timeless and powerful. What sets my studio apart is not only the dramatic, award-winning style of the imagery, but also the experience itself. My clients don’t just walk away with photographs; they walk away seeing themselves in a whole new light.

I’m known for bold, yet intimate portraits that combine meticulous lighting, styling, and post-production. Each piece is designed to be more than a picture—it’s intended as an heirloom, something that becomes part of a family’s legacy or a client’s story of self-confidence and empowerment.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of two things: first, the recognition my work has received on the international stage—representing Team USA at the World Photographic Cup in 2021 was a career highlight, as was representing Team Canada (my native country) in 2023. And second, the impact I see every time a client tears up at their reveal session because they finally see themselves as beautiful, strong, or worthy. That emotional transformation is the heartbeat of my brand.

For readers, I’d want them to know that my services go far beyond “taking pictures.” Every session is crafted as an experience: styling consultations, guided posing, dramatic lighting, and custom artwork creation. Whether it’s a portrait of an individual woman stepping into her power, or a family wanting art that will live on their walls for generations, my mission is to create something that’s both deeply personal and breathtakingly beautiful.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
What I’d love readers to know is that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself. I began this chapter of my life after already building a successful career in another industry, and I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is to lean into creativity, take risks, and embrace change.

That’s the same energy I bring to my clients. Whether it’s a woman stepping into her confidence after 40, or a family wanting to create heirloom artwork, my goal is always to give them more than just a photograph—I want to give them an experience that changes how they see themselves and how they’re remembered.

And for anyone who’s ever dreamed of pursuing something bold, whether it’s art, business, or personal growth—I hope my story encourages them to believe it’s possible.
