Meet Rome Green from Dormtainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rome Green.

Rome, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born in Heidelberg Germany to two amazing military parents who always instilled motion into my life. We moved from Germany to Massachusetts to Panama to North Carolina where I developed my country roots. I loved growing up in the south it gave me my southern hospitality which is something you don’t find a lot. Once my parents split I spent my youth and teens with my Mother and my baby sister. Growing up with women was interesting and stressful all at the same time lol. Just learning how to navigate the landscape of growing up trying to be a “man” but at the same time learning to open up and be vulnerable as possible. A beautiful thing in hindsight once I was older and understood. I appreciate my mother so much for what she taught me cause it later led to an amazing relationship with my father which we still have until this day.

I knew I was going to be in the creative field earlier on because I was doing music from the age of 12. I started a rap group at that age, started making beats and later took up trumpet and piano. When I got to high school i was a little of the fat side(technically I was all the way on the fat side because I was borderline obese lol). Being fat although tough at time gave me comedy chops that I didn’t know I had because I had to be able to roast no pun intended. I learned quick timing and to not take things so serious, life is better than we make it out to be sometimes. Fast forward I get to college and I meet the members of Dormtainment the first day of school. A bunch of like-minded individuals that wanted to create a business and in 2009 the business was born. Ten years later and numerous amounts of sketches, TV appearances, live shows, podcasts, and comedy albums the journey has just begun.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road definitely has not been smooth but there is always a calm after the storm. I can say that being in the business you build a warrior spirit. It teaches you that you have to keep swinging, keep fighting, even when it feels like its a losing battle. How you do anything is how you do everything and we live by that. We have had our channel deleted and had to fight back from that all the way to a million-plus subscribers. Been told no so many times I couldn’t even keep track of. All those no’s mean nothing cause all it takes is one yes. The only difference between someone successful and someone who isn’t is the successful person didn’t quit. Why would we come all this way to turn back around. The only path is forward and we know that more challenged will come but with each challenge comes the most important thing; GROWTH.

Dormtainment – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Dormtainment is a Comedy Collective that specializes is the study of medicine through laughter, basically, are a group of comedians lol we honestly don’t limit ourselves at all. We do sketches, scripted, improve, stand up, podcast, live shows, music, and anything else creative we can get our hands-on. When we started we dropped a new skit every Sunday at 7 pm before that was even a thing. We wanted to treat it like a network so that’s exactly what we did because consistency is the name of the game. Now we are just focused on being even more creative with bigger projects and more writing and making sure we are getting better. The thing that makes us special is because all of this came together naturally, we weren’t put together we were designed to be together on this journey. Our chemistry in our sketches and just when we are on screen together is unmatched and I can guarantee that.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I very large amount of self-awareness and selflessness because when you are in a group its not about you. It’s about what you are contributing to make the whole machine work. Ego is not a big thing when it comes to me and my business and that’s one thing I think is most important.
