Meet Robyn Willey-Pratt of Redondo Beach Center for Spiritual Living

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Willey-Pratt.

Hi Robyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

My journey to creating the program at the Redondo Beach Center for Spiritual Living is kind of an unexpected one. Teaching wasn’t my background. I actually come from film and television, specifically on-set management. I’m a First Assistant Director in television, and a lot of my work has been in children’s TV. On those sets, I focused on turning what could sometimes be a toxic environment into something positive and impactful for the kids. I created spaces where they could be themselves and connect with each other and the crew in ways that went beyond just the work. Every Friday, I’d organize something fun—like the art department running a Pictionary session, the stand-ins building an escape room, or the wardrobe team leading a tie-dye project. It was about building community in a place where that doesn’t always happen. After the strikes in 2023, and productions leaving California, I found myself looking for my next chapter, my next pivot. Through a series of synchronicities, I landed as the Director of the Children’s Program at the Redondo Beach Center for Spiritual Living.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been an amazing journey. My husband is a stage four colon cancer survivor, he was given six months to live by 1st doctor, and after a 2nd opinion and a little bit of hope (Shout out to Dr. HEINZ-JOSEF LENZ at USC KECK School of Medicine). He’s now been in remission for over five years. That experience was really the beginning of my spiritual awakening. On top of that, I lost my footing in the film and TV industry after the shift in the industry, with so much of the work moving out of CA. That season was bumpy, but also beautiful, because it pushed me to find peace within myself. Out of that, I realized part of my purpose is to show kids how powerful they already are, without labels, without accolades, because they came into this world whole, worthy, and perfect just as they are. The program I’m creating at the Redondo Beach Center for Spiritual Living is the start of this new phase of my life, and I know it’s just the beginning. There’s so much more I feel called to express in the space of children, mindfulness, energy, inner peace, and inner power. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

The Redondo Beach Center for Spiritual Living is a transdenominational community—we’re here to support people wherever they are on their spiritual journey. Transdenominational means we transcend any one particular religion. We embrace all paths and draw from many spiritual traditions and world religions, weaving together universal teachings with ancient wisdom and New Thought philosophy. That includes spiritual laws like the Law of Attraction and the Law of Circulation. Whether someone is brand new to spirituality or looking to go deeper in their practice, we’re here to walk alongside them.

We offer inspiring Sunday services at 11 a.m., and that’s also when my Children’s Mindfulness Program takes place. With the kids, we focus on mindfulness, self-love, and self-empowerment through storytelling, music, art, games, guided visualization, affirmative prayer, and free play. Depending on the week, we weave in mindset work, energy practices, or traditional mindfulness tools. We also have a teen program that builds community, self-confidence, and positive mental health practices, along with teen camps every winter and summer, where young people get to experience what it feels like to be fully authentic, accepted, and celebrated, something that isn’t always easy to find in traditional school settings.  This summer, we are launching “Conscious Kids Camp” for ages 6-10 at RBCSL.

What makes my classes different is that they’re not about teaching kids to sit still and just breathe. They’re about showing them that mindfulness is creative, fun, and already alive inside them. We make it safe to feel all feelings, even the uncomfortable ones, because emotions are just energy in motion. When kids learn to feel and move through them, they discover how strong and whole they really are on the other side of it. Coming from film and television, especially children’s TV, I know how to keep kids engaged and make things interactive, and I combine that with the spiritual practices that changed my own life, breathwork, sound healing, energy work, and the teachings of Centers for Spiritual Living—in a way that’s simple and approachable for families.

What I’m most proud of is that this program is not just childcare during service. It’s a space where kids and families can connect, recharge, and build tools they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives. At the heart of it all, the message is simple: you are already whole, worthy, and powerful exactly as you are.

In addition to my work at the Redondo Beach Center for Spiritual Living, I serve on the board of the Vedic Vibes Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to wellness resources in underserved communities. Our mission is to make healing practices—like meditation, yoga, and holistic wellness services—accessible to everyone, including foster youth and veterans who deserve support and care. It’s an honor to be part of an organization that’s committed to equity, healing, and bringing these tools to those who need them most.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Redondo Beach is how one is able to build community here. I think so many of us are craving connection—real, in-person experiences that go deeper than Zoom meetings or online classes. Since I started my work at the Redondo Beach Center for Spiritual Living, I’ve discovered this beautiful community of soul seekers from all different walks of life. People come together here, each with their own beliefs, but with the shared understanding that there’s more to life than meets the eye. It’s really special to witness.

On a personal note, I love living by the ocean, and I love the diversity that all of L.A. County brings—you can drive in any direction and suddenly feel like you’re in a whole different world.

What I like least? Honestly, it’s how unaffordable the area has become, and how quickly that comfort and beauty can slip out of reach for so many. I feel so grateful to raise my kids here, but I wish it were more accessible—because everyone deserves community, safety, and abundance, not just a select few.
