Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Fisher.
Robin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area, one of the most creative regions in the United States, with deep family roots in the fashion industry. My grandmother was a master tailor who owned an antique store in San Francisco. My mother and my aunt also owned a fashion boutique, so I spent much of my childhood surrounded by fabrics, patterns, and the art of making clothing. I believe I went on my first family buying trip by the age of six. Those early experiences taught me that style is more than just clothes. It is a form of self-expression and a way to communicate who you are without saying a word. I would often watch women shop in my family’s businesses, and to me, they were always searching for that one piece that would make a statement and express who they were to the world.
As a teenager, I was a bit of a troubled soul and felt like I was on a fast track to nowhere. I knew I wanted more for myself, so I made a decision to take my power back. I started with my presentation, dressing in a way that reflected the person I wanted to become. My first jobs outside of my family’s business were always in women’s fashion stores. I worked everywhere from Ross Dress For Less to Ferragamo. Although I loved fashion, I was good at math, so my family urged me to go to school for engineering. I hated it and found myself taking fashion classes on the side. I eventually graduated with a degree in Industrial Technology and landed a corporate fashion job six months before graduation through an unpaid technical design internship. I was driven and never looked back.
Over my 13-year corporate fashion career, I held positions as a technical designer, international production manager, executive buyer, creative director for a magazine, and more. My corporate career gave me the ability to travel and see the world while I was young, which I am forever grateful for.
In 2009, after having a set of twins, I decided it was time to go out on my own so I could better control my schedule with my growing family. I launched Polished Image and Style, a dream I had carried for years. I wanted to merge my fashion expertise with my passion for empowering women, specifically high-functioning professional women, to look and feel like the best version of themselves. Looking the part had changed my life and given me opportunities I never could have imagined. I wanted to teach other women how to do the same. Over the years, I have developed my proven signature Polished ID™ Method, a six-step system that teaches women to define their personal style, build a wardrobe that aligns with their goals, and show up with confidence without stress or overwhelm.
Today, I work with women all over the world through my one-on-one services, virtual coaching program, and speaking engagements. My mission is simple: I help women develop confident, individual style so they can level up how they show up and live the life they desire.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but I’ve loved every minute of it! My journey has been filled with both personal and professional challenges that tested my resilience.
On the personal side, I became a mother of three, including twin boys, while building my business from the ground up. Learning how to balance motherhood, entrepreneurship, and self-care was a constant adjustment. Later, I faced a battle with colon cancer, which forced me to slow down, reevaluate my priorities, and get intentional about my health and the way I managed my time.
Professionally, entrepreneurship brought its own set of challenges. In the early years, I had to figure out how to build a client base, establish credibility in a competitive industry, and create a business model that would allow me to work with women all over the world. There were moments when I questioned if I had made the right decision to leave my secure corporate role, but each challenge pushed me to become more creative, resourceful, and committed to my vision.
Every obstacle has shaped me into the woman and business owner I am today. I learned that success is not about avoiding challenges, it is about facing them head-on, staying true to your purpose, and never giving up on the life and business you want to create.
We’ve been impressed with Polished Image and Style, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Polished Image and Style is a full-service executive image consulting and personal styling agency based in the Washington DC Metro. We work with high-functioning professional women who want to look and feel confident while authentically representing who they are. My clients are executives, entrepreneurs, attorneys, doctors, tv anchor women, diplomats, and other women who are leaders in their fields. They come to me because they want a wardrobe that works for their life, communicates their value, and takes the stress out of getting dressed.
I am known for my signature Polished ID™ Method, a six-step system that teaches women how to define their unique style, edit and update their wardrobe, and create looks that align with their personality, goals, and lifestyle. This is not about making my clients into someone they are not. It is about helping them become their own style editor so they can confidently show up in every space they enter.
What sets me apart is that I combine over 25 years of fashion industry experience with a deep understanding of personal branding and professional presence. My work is as much about mindset as it is about clothes. I help women align their image with who they truly are, so their presence speaks before they even say a word.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of the trust and transformation my clients experience. Many come to me feeling disconnected from their wardrobe and frustrated with their style, and leave with a clear personal brand, a wardrobe they love, and the confidence to walk into any room ready to own it.
Polished Image and Style offers one-on-one virtual styling, wardrobe development programs, and private client services, along with speaking and corporate workshops. Whether I am working with a client individually or speaking to a room full of women, my mission is the same: to ensure they understand that showing up polished is not about perfection—it is about intention, self-respect, and owning your power.
How do you think about luck?
I would not say I have been lucky. I believe in destiny, and I know that God gave me a gift to help others, so I am committed to using it. Everything I have achieved has been the result of hard work, dedication, and staying true to my calling. Even when times get tough, I trust that everything is working exactly as it should.
I feel extremely blessed to know my true purpose in life. My passion for helping others, combined with my love for fashion and personal branding, has fueled me for as long as I can remember. That combination has guided every decision I have made in my business and allowed me to build a company that empowers women to step into they are confidently and present their best self to the world.
