Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberto Pasquariello.
Hi Roberto, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing the piano when I was 12 years old and went to a performing arts high school and then continued with music and majored in vocal performance at Loyola New Orleans. I continue to play the piano and sing and I perform in local South Bay nursing homes and restaurants around Culver City and the Pasadena areas.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, because the kind of music I play is from the 30s and 40s and it wasn’t really well recieved in High School or in College. I wasn’t able to get into the jazz band because it wasn’t the kind of jazz that the school was looking for and so I was always relegated to the lowest jazz band. I kept pushing thru and now am playing with a band that specializes in 30s and 40s music and we play regularly at a hotel in Culver City as well as restaurants in Pasadena and Culver City.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I play the piano and sing and specialize in music from the early jazz days, from the 30s and 40s. I like to sing Frank Sinatra songs and Nat Kind Cole songs as well as classic Neapolitan songs. What sets me apart is that I sing old standards as well as classical songs such as the old Neapolitan songs from italy, that’s rare to find in a performer these days. What I’m proud of is that I’m familiar with all the neapolitan songs that my dad grew up with being from Naples himself.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Playing with my brother in the alley way, riding our bikes and playing basketball in the alley with the basketball net that my dad set up.
