Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Vilay.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved here from the Midwest with a background in retail management and a love for the fashion industry. It was a new start for me to really be able to recreate myself and use everything I know to start a new life out here in Los Angeles. This led me to scoring a position at Kin Los Angeles, where I have worked my way up from a Sales Representative into the Director of Operations which allowed me to gain further experience in marketing, e-commerce, and buying.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is always going to be some type of struggle when you are on the path to where you want to be in your career. The question to ask yourself is this something worth enough for you to want to focus your time and energy on. The amazing part of my job was the level of growth that I was able to accomplish by doing so.
The amount of material you had to create from scratch gave me such a higher appreciation for how carefully executed these designers are putting into the look of their brand.
I loved understanding the production involved from selecting fabrics, to seeing them alive on the runway and then meticulously placed in our storefront windows on Sunset Blvd for the world to see. Understanding the presence of the industry in our store is what fuels me to keep going.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Since 2004, we have been a retail destination on Sunset Boulevard featuring the latest collections from established designers around the globe. Our multidimensional stores, now including Bel air and Pacific City features Men’s and Women’s clothing and accessories from over 20 international and domestic brands.
My job as the Director of Operations is to do everything and anything to make sure that our business is running smoothly. I have worked my way up every position within the company so that helps give me a better understanding of all the opportunities of growth at each tier for the business.
I am proud of how adaptable our company has become even with having such different demographics for each location. We are able to mold ourselves into what our customers want and give it to them by the next season!
As we all know, there are plenty of boutiques off Sunset Blvd, but our layout is built like a fun house which allows you to search and explore and be amazed by the visual effort put into each section of the shop. You definitely will not want to sit out when you see what’s inside!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I always had self-expression on my mind. Everything from the way I dressed to the way I talked to how I handled situations led to understanding my inner self to be able to blast out into the world almost like a super power. All of these things painted a lifestyle that I had full control over. My life was this eclectic piece of artwork and I was deeply interested to see how everyone else’s picture came out like. This also opened up doors to exploring new destinations, art, food, culture and so much more by just keeping my eyes wide and my mind open.
