Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Radnoti.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Robert. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m from an immigrant family. My parents escaped from Budapest during the Hungarian revolution and were the first Magyar (Hungarian) refugees to land in American on January 1, 1957. My kindergarten teacher taught me English. I started working at 10 – as a newspaper boy eventually delivering up to 300 papers at 4am before school.
My parents started school as soon as they learned the language and even though it took 12 years, my dad became an engineer (beginning as a laborer in a titanium plant) and started his own company after about 25 years. My mom became an artist; Richard Chamberlain bought a couple of her pieces for his New York apartment. They worked hard and I learned that from them.
I earned an athletic scholarship (as a walk-on in Track/XC) and went to school at the University of Colorado where I got my Chemical Engineering degree and worked for Exxon for 18 years (I got my MBA from UCLA along the way). And then as a management consultant for another eight years while I started coaching Track & Field and Cross Country at Thousand Oaks High School. It took eight years but we finally won the California State Championship and it was time to move on to Pepperdine University. I have been Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams at Pepperdine University for 14 years opting to “retire” to make my second major career shift to becoming a life coach./strategist/hypnotherapist.
Over the years beginning at Exxon, I became more and more excited about personal development and quantum physics of the brain – and how to achieve peak performances. I have studied and became a trainer/leader of many programs including Investment in Excellence, Severn Habits of Highly Effective People. The Hoffman Process, and recently I have been selected to be a senior leader of Tony Robbins live programs. I have been teaching/mentoring/consulting for over 30 years and have a wide range of life experiences (I think critical to being a good coach) including dealing with family and friends’ mental illnesses, suicide, alcohol and drug abuse, divorce, career changes, spiritual journeys, etc.
Now, I have formed a company called Radnoti Research Institute to focus my attention for the final phase of my life – to helping people live each day such that it’s the best day ever – again!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road as I have dealt with the suicide of my dad at 76 years old leaving my mom alone and deserted. I have gone through divorce. I have had friends die of drug overdoses. And, though it’s taken a long time, I have learned that everything is happening for us, not to us. And, the secret to life is to live in a beautiful state!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I formed Radnoti Research Institute recently to specialize in helping people not only in the Science of Achievement but also in the Art of Fulfillment. I find more and more people simply have not learned life strategies and there are many of them – our education system just does not teach these principles. Combining hypnotherapy with life coaching, I know I have a winning formula of success.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was the good kid who would organize the sports games until about halftime when the drugs would come out and I would leave. I grew up in Las Vegas and there’s a reason it’s called Sin City. I was a fast runner, smart in math, but slow in reading (I always said it’s because English is my second language. When I worked for Exxon I took a speed reading course that changed my life. Now, I read about a book a week). I was always entrepreneurial mowing lawns, selling candy door to door, delivering newspapers and then finally working in restaurants. I even had my dad my AMF (back when I loved bowling) stock for me when I was 11 years old and doubled my money from $200 to $400. But, I was quite introverted. I still am, though no one believes me when I tell them that.
