Today we’d like to introduce you to Richmond Punch.
Hi Richmond, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
At the age of five years old, my mom, who was a single parent, made a life-changing decision to put me in Montessori School. It was there that I discovered and began my violin journey. The best part is that I received support while learning my instrument programs put in place for families like mine. These programs led me to study at Southern Methodist University and learn from members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. This prepared me to audition for the Dallas Symphony Young Strings Program, hone my skills, and audition for and graduate from the prestigious Juilliard School as well as Yale University, where I received my Master’s Degree.
I have been performing all over the world since then, making my career as a solo artist in all styles of music, including jazz, Latin, hip hop, rnb, and more.
I have been blessed to do what I love. For more than 20 years, Richmond Punch Productions has offered Violin, Bands, Electric String Groups, DJs, Violin and DJs, Dancers, and more since becoming a contractor.
I have opened for artists CeeLo and Idina Menzel, performed a duet with Tony Terry, and has entertained Hollywood Royalty and other celebrities that include Viola Davis, Danny Glover, Steven Forbes, Sir Charles Barkley, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Real Housewives of Atlanta, The cast of Tyler Perry Sistas, Daymond “Sharktank” John, Kirk Franklin just to name a few.
In 2024, I will release a jazz album that I hope will be award-winning and put me on the global jazz festivals scene in a larger capacity.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes, there was a major struggle after moving to Atlanta to advance my entertainment career. My wife had retired from her job and relocated to Black Hollywood with me, only to be hit with the Pandemic a week after settling in. It was hard seeing business after business stop live entertainment and eventually shutting down completely. We sought help and was able to make it through. My wife was in the hospital for a whole month on a ventilator after catching Covid. She is still suffering from the effects of it and waiting to be put on Disability.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My niche is that I am a Juilliard classically trained artist with a passion for the violin. I love being able to perform for any culture, religion, and any type of event. My entertainment is interactive and engaging. You can feel my performance in your spirit. That’s what has carried me on to working for Disney Cruise Line. It also allowed my gift to bless global television for 4 hours live for the funeral services of Rayshard Brooks. This brings up my point that I am most proud of my violin being a voice in entertainment justice and as a music trendsetter. I am excited about what’s next!
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was Sunday Mornings hearing choirs and orchestras at the churches I went to. I discovered the symphony of sounds that David spoke about in the bible. This was brought to life through the instruments, voices, and the power of how it lifted the spirits of the people who attended.
