Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Faber Green.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born and raised in Southern California, I graduated from UCLA. My marketing and design skills were applied to creating one of the country’s largest privately owned jewelry stores. Then, in partnership with industry stalwarts Kazanjian and Fogarty, I created Rhonda Faber Green Designs. Design is my passion and I am delighted when I see people wearing and enjoying my work. My designs are modern, versatile and timeless. When I create engagement rings for private clients, I am thrilled when provided the opportunity to design one of a kind pieces for one of a kind moments in people’s lives.
Today the company is primarily known for the “Filigreen” and “Diamondot” Collections. My signature piece is the Filigreen Heart which has its own copyright and is sold in fine jewelry stores in the United States and around the world.
Recently, I have taken my love of art and design and have become a tattoo artist! I work out of a wonderful tattoo shop in Silverlake and I challenge myself every day to create unique, wearable art that inspires my customers as well as myself. It’s a brand new expression of the art I love to create. Above all, I’m delighted just seeing my designs on someone, whether it’s a piece of my jewelry or a tattoo that they will love forever.
My niece asked me one day to tattoo one of my designs on her. My response: “I don’t know how to tattoo”. Because I never like to say “I don’t know how to…” those little words led me to the world of tattooing. Plus I’m a calligrapher and I thought, this is a total plus when it comes to lettering and tattoos.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Luxury items, like fine jewelry, are often emotional purchases that are usually tied to the economy in some way. In robust times, business for fine jewelry can be good. But, in a down economy, luxury purchases are the first to be discarded. So, like most businesses, we are not immune to the welfare of our clientele. As they fare well, so do we. It can be a bumpy road.
Rhonda Faber Green Designs – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company designs and manufactures jewelry, selling to fine jewelry stores and selling on line. I personally create all the designs and supervise all aspects of the company, from manufacturing, marketing and sales. I take a very hands-on approach to insure the quality of our products. Our employees understand that our brand is devoted to the highest quality and they deliver extraordinary customer service.
I have been asked to lecture at the Gemological Institute of America. I enjoy imparting my knowledge and love for art and design. Additionally, I participate in trade shows and trunk shows at retail stores. In the past I have been asked to design and manufacture a logo diamond pendant for the Crystal Cruise Luxury Liners. I have also participated in Trunk Shows, lectures and onboard TV shows aboard Crystal and other luxury liners that featured my jewelry, as we visited many exotic ports of call.
My designs have been trademarked and I have several copyrights attached to them as well. My business specializes in designing and creating unique 18K gold and diamond jewelry in white, yellow and rose gold.
Celebrities can be seen wearing my designs in film and television as well as on the red carpet. Carrie Ann Inaba wore my jewelry for years on Dancing with the Stars. I appeared on America’s Next Top Model awarding the winner with Rhonda Faber Green jewelry and just recently Sharon Stone is wearing one of my heart designs in her new movie, “A Little Something for Your Birthday”. My heart is – the “Little Something”. You can also see a few of my engagement rings in the movie as well.
My jewelry is featured online at: Rhondafabergreen.com but can be purchased on beladora.com and also on jewelstreet.com.
I’m also proud of my new venture into the world of tattooing. I can currently be found at a lovely shop called, Body Art and Soul Tattoo.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have been most honored on a number of occasions when my industry piers have recognized and awarded my designs.
A wonderful company, Lafonn, sought me out in order to license my name and manufacture my designs. They sell throughout the United States and globally. You can find the RFG jewelry specifically designed for them at Lafonn.com.
Additionally, I’m also proud of the opportunity to give back to my community. I have been involved in raising money for the City of Hope and several other charities. I have also sat on the board of the Maple Counseling Center who provides low fee counseling to people in Los Angeles on an outpatient basis.
