Meet Rebecca Slome of Mommy To Be Reflexology & Mobile Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Slome.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Once upon a time, I stood 4 feet tall in a room full of buttons which towered over my head in my parent’s store called Buttonham Palace. My parents spoke with a heavy Russian accent and their store was our second home. It is here I learned to speak to people from all walks of life by the age of 7. Weather it was a little old woman who lost her buttons literally, or a fashionista wanting to spruce up her new style, I found a button and a story to match. Little did I know or appreciate then but learning how to comfort and connect with people had planted its seeds in me and I was hooked! People began to come in and request I, a mere 7-year-old would help them. And in turn, I loved to see their eyes sparkle when they found the perfect rhinestone button cover. I later realized they were not only coming in to switch out a button but they were coming to get heard, seen, to laugh and connect. In hindsight they were coming in for the dying art of customer service. But, all I remember from that time was giggling with my sister and being incredibly proud of my parents who came here with nothing and started something!

My fascination with people, the human body and the energetic body grew. I wanted to know what moved us, what healed us and what brought out that sparkle in people’s eyes when they laughed.

I put myself through a Kinesiology degree and massage school by marketing spas. I guess that was my bridge to doing something on my own as my last employer advised me to do.

There was an aha moment when I found where the mind and body meet through reflexology. The incredible power of touch had sown a stitch to tie in with where the seed had been planted decades ago. A new level of connecting to others had formed. I knew massage therapy, physical therapy and energetic mind-body medicine was where I wanted to help nurture others.

In personal hot and steamy adventures of a 20 something, I had met the love of my life on …. NO!! not tinder… the archaic eHarmony! He moved me from sunny San Diego to the vibrant city of LA!

After having my first baby something in me had changed. I had lost one in utero before my first and my friends were opening up about their fertility struggles as well.

The distant inner calling to nurture pulled me toward moms and babies, fertility in particular. After helping my first client get pregnant with reflexology, guided meditation and a great deal of laughter, I knew the birth community, moms and women on the journey to motherhood were my little village in the jungle of LA!

Mommy to Be Reflexology (an integrative in- home maternity wellness spa) was born!!

Demand for in home, fertility, pre and postpartum massage and reflexology began to grow which brought a need for more people. I hired on an insanely talented and qualified team and other service providers, again using the intuitive connection technique I had learned in childhood.

Mommy to Be reflexology began with myself holding space for healing, laughter and softening for other women. If it were possible I would wrap my arms around all the babies in the world and help heal the ache for baby in those the women who struggle and pamper all the new moms to be. Unfortunately, time is limited and there is only one of me and two children which raise as a mommypreneur. The beauty is now my team has grown and there are more women offering mind and body wellness at home. We supply relaxation to women going through IVF, help ease pains of bed rest, offer postpartum cesarean recovery massage, provide induction of labor reflexology, teach in home fertility yoga and more! We continue to be by women for women in nature and most of our service providers are mothers already.

Our services continually grow based on the demand of the new moms. Our customers are all word of mouth, referrals from top OBS, Reproductive Endocrinologist and doulas in LA. The fabric of the variety of maternity wellness services at home may change. But, the special button for need of connection and customer service is the same it has always been and has now become our mission. Whether it’s a celebrity client, a busy corporate executive or a stay at home mom, the common thread is the same. We are all women on the journey to motherhood and it has become my job to make sure it always leads home to a happy and sparkle eyed mommy meeting her new baby.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an organic progression and path of growth ! Some of the main struggles have been meeting a growing demand and hiring the best team possible to service it.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mommy To Be Reflexology & Mobile Spa – what should we know?
We are an in home maternity spa and wellness concierge service. Maternity Reflexology is our signature spa service and that which got us started. It is HUGE in UK, Ireland and Japan! I am thrilled to have been able to bring it to the United States in a big way. We are in conversations with Cedar Sinai at the moment to bring Maternity Reflexology into the delivery room. Other mobile spas offer prenatal massage. We take it one step further by including maternity reflexology into each session. That would be what sets us apart along with the fact that we are a boutique in home maternity wellness service and concierge wellness service in one. In nutshell, we come to the aid of moms (and sometimes two dads and/ or an intended parent) in the comfort of their homes during all stages of the journey to motherhood/ parenthood.

We specialize in offering a variety of maternity spa and customized integrative wellness services from all parts of the world to better serve women from mind to body.

Part of our fertility service profit goes to an organization which raises money for women who can’t afford IVF. I guess I’m pretty proud of that as well! 🙂

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
People want to know you care. They want to know they are not just a number. Basically, they want the dying art of customer service- and we give it to them.

Sometimes that means letting women cry it out when they are getting a fertility massage or guiding the mother about to give birth through a body opening meditation. Or, for our celebrity clients living in in the limelight with a need to always look flawless, we create an oasis at home to be fully pregnant and raw and soft.

I think and feel that is what made us! Women want to remember what it feels like to fully surrender to motherhood, to relax, be playful and we are there to bridge the gap in a sensitive and transitional time.

I guess it does not hurt to love what you do either. And, that we do!!
