Meet Rashee Gupta of MrsGuptaSquared & MGS Accessories

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashee Gupta.

Rashee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am originally from Chicago; born and raised there however I lived and spent a lot of my time in India and the Middle East. I even did some of my Bachelor’s courses in the Middle East so I have always been fearless, a traveler and an adventurer. I lost my father at a very young age, seven to be specific. I decided, though, after seeing my mother struggle as a single parent and go through so much, that I want to change the cycle, if at all possible. I took up 3, 4, sometimes 5 jobs growing up to make ends meet and eventually in Chicago, I opened my own makeup academy, freelancing and teaching makeup classes and seminars. I did that for about 3 years even traveling internationally to freelance and teach worldwide and just to explore the world. I then got married in 2016 and decided to move to San Francisco to start this new chapter in my life with a fresh start.

In Chicago, I had also been working a corporate job that I eventually had to transition out of because I couldn’t physically be in their office anymore. I had about 7 months or so of trying to figure things out so to say and I loved writing so I thought why don’t I start writing a blog so MrsGuptaSquared was born in 2016. Well, one thing led to another and people just kept asking for more and more. Then in 2017, coming from a business background and family, I had an acquaintance who suggested that I start designing and selling my own accessories. While I can have plenty on my plate and a packed schedule, I am always up for a challenge and adventure so dove I right in.

Three months into it they asked if I wanted to start selling my own makeup line. While that was definitely something I wanted and dreamed of more than anything, I thought it was a crazy, impossible dream. Long story short, I said no but they pursued me for some time and finally convinced me. Our first makeup and skincare products sold out in a couple hours and the next couple products continued like that and MGS Accessories was born.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I have help here and there but for the most part, I am a one-woman show. I also do not have any family around and I highly believe that not only having family around but having their support in every way possible makes a world of difference. Family aside, people are not always the nicest.

In the beauty industry, while there is plenty to go around, many people are just not nice and will not cheer you on or even help. Since starting the business we have had major roadblocks but you have to just step back at times, reassess everything, and almost give yourself a pep talk and remind yourself why you are doing what you are doing and why it is important.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about MrsGuptaSquared & MGS Accessories – what should we know?
MrsGuptaSquared is my blog on which I post new blog posts Monday – Friday about fashion, food, beauty, and travel. I used to blog 7 days a week but I just recently stopped blogging on the weekends because it is important to give yourself a break and I am also focusing on other, new, and exciting things.

Aside from MrsGuptaSquared I also am the CEO of MGS Accessories, my own line of makeup and accessories. We are known for being vegan and cruelty-free yet have the most glamorous products and packaging.

If that isn’t enough, I work a full-time corporate job as well and that is how I am able to relate to so many people especially women. We, as women, have so many hats and roles to juggle, I show you how you can truly have it all while living your best life. It’s all about balance and time management while having the passion and drive.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband. It might sound cliche and cheesy but a lot of the credit, if not all, goes to my husband. He has stayed up with me on countless nights while I worked just to support me, sometimes himself, working, managing inventory, packing orders, and helping to film and create content.

He even created a studio for me to film in our tiny 500 square foot apartment! If that’s not love then I don’t know what is. The support he provides makes me excel tremendously and deliver and create amazing products, content, speeches, you name it. He supports the dream and he supports me; that is more than I can ever ask for.
