Meet Randy Lewis of Throwback Junction in San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randy Lewis.

Randy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Essentially we wanted to bring a piece of Ventura Blvd. to the north valley. A buy, sell, trade clothing and accessory store with a hip, urban atmosphere. We found a location and are working to bring our target markets to the store. Because our markets are quite diverse, we carry something for all ages and styles. We have also responded to our customers who want vinyl records, home goods and furniture (mostly vintage, but always eclectic).

Has it been a smooth road?
Things are going as expected, if not a little better. Our biggest challenge has been drawing customers to an area of town they don’t normally go. Every day we get at least one customer who lives within a mile of our store, who is just seeing us for the first time. We’ve been open almost eight months. As of now, there are few other businesses in the Downtown San Fernando Mall that draw our target. We were aware of this challenge going in so it’s no surprise.

We believe that San Fernando can become a Highland Park or Eagle Rock, and of course it behooves us to be at the forefront.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a thrift version of Urban Outfitters, with the BUY, SELL, TRADE element. We are the only store we know of in LA that does this.

We specialize in men’s’ and women’s’ apparel and accessories, including shoes and jewelry. We also carry:

Curios

What really sets us apart is our inventory. Besides diversity, we offer a large collection of one-of-a-kind items. We also carry a much larger selection of new merchandise than our “new and recycled” competitors. We also deliver a unique and entertaining shopping experience. Music plays a big part in the store. Our inventory and decor is very influenced by punk and classic rock.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Of course LA is a perfect place for a business like ours. It is plenty large and diverse enough.
