Meet Rachel Kapp of Kapp Educational Therapy Group in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Kapp.

Rachel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in Los Angeles, CA and was a product of a fabulous public school education. I graduated with honors from UC Berkeley in 2009 and came back to Los Angeles and became a preschool teacher. Teaching pre-kindergarten was gratifying for many years: I felt productive, challenged, and inspired. After becoming a lead teacher, I decided my next step was to continue my education.

I was always passionate about how and why students learned. In 2015, I received my master’s degree in Special Education with a certification in Educational Therapy. Educational therapy was the EXACT right fit for me–through educational therapy, I could support struggling learners.

I began Kapp Educational Therapy Group, which is a flourishing private practice in Beverly Hills. We take a whole-child approach and honor what is so wonderful about each student while supporting them through their journey. We are honored to partner with parents and teachers alike as we all work together to reach goals. We allow our learner’s strengths to shine while mitigating any weaknesses. Our goal for all our learners is to be independent and autonomous.

In 2018, after recognizing a profound need for more information about and awareness for educational therapy, I co-launched Learn Smarter: the Educational Therapy Podcast with my co-host, Stephanie Pitts, an educational therapist in Redondo Beach, CA. We knew that the kind of support we were able to provide for our clients was needed in different communities and that we could broaden our impact. We just celebrated our podcast’s 1-year anniversary in May 2019 and it’s been incredible to see the impact of the podcast on the lives of learners all over the world.

Additionally, I spend a lot of time on Instagram (@kappedtherapy), showing the world what educational therapy looks like. It helps parents, teachers, and students understand what to expect in educational therapy while expanding awareness about the field as whole.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Launching my podcast, Learn Smarter: the Educational Therapy podcast was definitely a huge challenge. We were deeply passionate about this project but figuring out the technical issues of podcasting, how to structure episodes, creating a podcast website, and how to advertise it was overwhelming. It took us nine months from conception to launching!

Kapp Educational Therapy Group – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At Kapp Educational Therapy Group, we serve learners as young kindergarten through adulthood. We specialize in students with ADHD, executive functioning issues, writing, and math remediation.

The goal of educational therapy is to be DONE with educational therapy. Our learner’s lives are transformed as they go through the process of educational therapy. We provide skills, strategies, and support so learners can apply what they have learned in educational therapy. We find that the home and family life of our struggling learners also massively improve as stressors are mitigated and removed entirely. It is an honor to be a part of moments of transformation in our learner’s lives.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have had several proud moments that are both big and small. Acquiring office space and having a podcast were two major turning points in my business and being known for providing outstanding, quality educational therapy is amazing.

The moments that I’m MOST proud of, though, are the small wins and victories that my learner’s experience as a result of our work together. The goal for every client is to be an independent and autonomous learner–and to no longer need educational therapy! Every time we get to graduate a learner who is thriving out of our practice and launch them into the world is the greatest feeling.
