At its heart is Quynh Tram Vu, a woman whose entrepreneurial fire was forged in the shadows of war, hardship, and unwavering determination. This story is a tribute to her father, a man who endured the unimaginable yet emerged victorious legacy that continues to inspire and shape the foundation of Lash Pilot.

A Father’s Legacy: Strength Through Adversity

Quynh Tram Vu’s father was a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War, enduring eight long years of imprisonment. Stripped of his power, wealth, and freedom by the communist government, he faced a future that seemed hopeless. Yet, when he was finally released, he refused to be defeated. Against all odds and under the suppression of the Vietnamese regime, he rebuilt his life from the ground up, becoming a successful small business owner.

Growing up, Quynh witnessed firsthand how her father overcame adversity through sheer resilience, discipline, and entrepreneurial instinct. He built a thriving business despite the obstacles placed before him, and in doing so, he not only provided for his family but also instilled in his daughter an innate understanding of what it takes to create and sustain success. Without realizing it at the time, Quynh absorbed the mindset, skills, and grit of an entrepreneur’s lessons that would later define her own journey.

From Vietnam to America: A Dream Takes Flight

In Vietnam, Quynh pursued an education in international business at Foreign Trade University. However, her journey would take an unexpected turn when she sought political asylum in the United States at the age of 23. Arriving in a new country with nothing but ambition, she knew she had to build her future from scratch just as her father had done before her.

Determined to succeed, Quynh enrolled in college while working part-time as a hair and makeup stylist for bridal parties. She later graduated with honors from Cal State Fullerton with a degree in accounting. But numbers alone weren’t enough, her passion lays in beauty, in transformation, in the art of making women feel confident. To refine her craft, she trained at Paul Mitchell School, mastering hairstyling to complement her expertise in makeup artistry.

Over the next 16 years, Quynh built a career as a sought-after bridal makeup artist and hairstylist. She developed a deep understanding of beauty; how hair frames the face, how brows define a persona’s expression, and how lashes complete the perfect look. She wasn’t just applying makeup; she was sculpting confidence.

The Birth of Lash Pilot: A Vision for Excellence

Before Lash Pilot, there was QT Beauty Center, Quynh’s first salon, where she offered everything from hair coloring to Brazilian blowouts. She continuously honed her skills, using her clients as models to perfect new techniques. However, after three years, she realized that offering too many services made it difficult to scale. The turning point came when she saw the growing demand for eyelash extensions. She recognized that specializing in one area would allow her to create a more profitable, efficient, and high-quality business.

Quynh decided to pivot. She opened a salon in Santa Monica, originally named 95 Lash, making it one of the first three eyelash-focused salons in downtown Santa Monica. But the journey was not easy.

In the early days, she struggled to attract clients, sometimes seeing only one or two appointments a week. She faced moments of doubt and even considered closing the business. But just like her father, she refused to give up. With relentless dedication and an unwavering belief in her craft, she built a reputation for stunning lash designs and exceptional retention. Soon, 95 Lash became the go-to destination for eyelash extensions in Santa Monica and West LA.

Then, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Many businesses shut down. Quynh could have lost everything. But instead of surrendering, she saw an opportunity to evolve. She restructured, rebranded, and relaunched her business as Lash Pilot, a name that symbolized precision, expertise, and taking beauty to new heights.

With a stronger brand identity and a targeted marketing strategy, Lash Pilot soared to new levels of success. Quynh expanded her team, delegating loyal clients to highly trained stylists, and introduced new services such as nano brows, ProCell micro channeling, and lip blush. By mastering and marketing one service at a time, she ensured that every Lash Pilot stylist was an expert, reinforcing the brand’s reputation for excellence.

Innovation & Expansion: The Future of Lash Pilot

In 2021, Quynh launched the Lash Pilot Passport, a first-of-its-kind eyelash extension membership that prioritizes lash wellness. Unlike other programs, this membership includes a new set, ensuring clients enjoy long-lasting, healthy lashes without compromising their natural beauty. It remains the only lash membership of its kind in the world.

By 2022, she had successfully transformed Lash Pilot into a franchise system, with the first Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) approved that year. Now, she is focused on developing both her Santa Monica and Newport Beach locations while growing Lash Pilot franchises nationwide.

With tens of thousands of satisfied clients, Lash Pilot has positioned itself as a premium brand for lashes, brows, and lips. The franchise model offers an incredible opportunity for beauty entrepreneurs who want financial success and freedom under the guidance of a proven system.

Every business evolves through the phases of infancy, adolescence, and maturity—and Lash Pilot is no exception. Each phase brought its own challenges, but also opportunities for growth and transformation.

In the infant phase, founder Tram entered the business driven by passion, but without a clear business plan. Her focus was on delivering excellence in service, often at the expense of monitoring cash flow or profitability. With little experience in hiring or marketing, she faced a steep learning curve. However, Tram made a pivotal decision early on: rather than offering a full range of beauty services, she chose to specialize exclusively in eyelash extensions. This singular focus allowed her to channel her energy into mastering one domain, while gradually learning how to hire, train, and market with intention.

As the business entered the adolescent phase, the foundations began to solidify. With a clearer vision and more refined strategies, Tram started building a team, establishing consistent service standards, and creating a brand identity rooted in specialization and quality.

Now in the mature phase, Tram continues to fine-tune operations, transforming day-to-day tasks into repeatable systems. Her goal is not just to maintain success, but to make it scalable. From streamlined training programs to standardized customer experiences, Lash Pilot is now positioned as a business that delivers excellence consistently—and sustainably.

What I Don’t Like About LA
That said, LA definitely has its challenges. The traffic can be overwhelming, and the cost of living and running a business here is high. It takes resilience and smart planning to thrive, but if you’re driven and passionate, it’s still one of the best cities to chase big dreams.
