Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandro Monetti.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My philosophy of life is as simple as ABC…Always Be Creating.
I started as a journalist and was so inspired by the creative people I met in that role that I decided to pursue a range of other creative outlets. That saw me expanding from writing articles to writing plays, books, audio dramas and films
My latest stage show, Die Hard Xmas: The Parody Musical, is a festive comedy I wrote and directed based on my favorite action movie and it recently played to full houses in London and New York.
I’ve executive produced a string of award winning short films including Key of Genius, Back of the Net, Sister Wives, Tech to the Future and the Oscar shortlisted Room Taken, co-executive produced by Colin Farrell.
My books include biographies of movie stars Mickey Rourke and Colin Firth, co-written World War II books Avenger Field and D-Day: A Millennials Guide and my autobiography, Confessions of a Hollywood Insider. I also work as a ghost writer of biographies for business leaders.
I’ve hosted a string of celebrity events including An Evening with Sylvester Stallone, live shows with Al Pacino and James Bond movie global press launches.
And I’ve continued my work as a journalist – including as an entertainment expert for BBC World News, a royal expert for CNN International and editor in chief of Hollywood International Filmmaker magazine – winning six LA Press Club awards in the last seven years.
In addition, I’ve narrated a string of audio books and written audio dramas including Marilyn & Sinatra, based on my play about the little known love story between those two showbiz icons,.
What drives all this creativity is a love of showbusiness that was forged where it all started for me – in my entertainment friendly English home town of Blackpool – for which I am now an ambassador – and my adopted city of Los Angeles.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every obstacle is just another hurdle to jump over. Whether it’s financial obstacles, health challenges or other issues, there’s always, if you look and think hard enough, a way to get things completed and completed well.
The lessons learned include to lead with kindness, assure every voice on the team is heard and to move the audience every time.
What links the stories I take on is that I’m very passionate about them and I hope that passion resonates with audience.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The main lesson is to always consider and help others so they can find the confidence to make their own creative dreams come true.
To further that goal, I do a lot of lecturing to film and writing students and other groups. I’ve taken on various charity roles – including LA ambassador for the British Benevolent Society – and it’s so rewarding to see creatives make that breakthrough and find their voice.
Los Angeles is a city of storytellers, I’m just one of many here, but I’m inspired by the past, present and future of this city and all its wonderful possibilities.
