Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca L’Amore.
Rebecca, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a model, actor, and DJ/songwriter/vocalist called Princess Cyberspace. I started modeling approximately four years ago. I moved to Los Angeles with my ex-boyfriend, music producer Stelio Marshall, around the time David Bowie died.
I actually moved here on the leap day (February 29), so technically I’ve only lived here for one leap year. Stelio and I made music full-time as Princess Cyberspace, and independently released an album called #CYBERPROPAGANDA. I’ve performed live a few times, and have a cult following with my music. Our one-hit-wonder ‘So Relatable’ was a viral hit a few years ago, and we also made a music video for it. I also DJed for a few years, but because of recent events (particularly COVID-19), I have not been DJing as much. Instead, I am focusing on modeling and, most recently, acting. As a model, I have worked with brands such as KENZO x Vans, Ulta Beauty, Coca Cola, Bose, Adidas, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Mini Cooper, Benefit Cosmetics, Uber Eats, and more! Currently, I am also working on improving my acting skills while continuing to model for consumer products. As a hobby, I work on music and am currently in post-production for a music video for my new avant garde song, ‘Born To Suffer’ produced by Ari Ingber (this song is 13 minutes long!)
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road as an entertainer is never smooth; anyone who tells you that it is lying. For me, my most difficult struggles have been falling in love. When I fall in love with someone, I put my whole heart and soul into my love for them. This can be distracting, as I do not feel that Los Angeles is a city that promotes true love. I have also struggled with staying focused; there are so many distractions in a city such as LA that it is easy to fall off track. COVID-19 has also been a challenge, as I thrive on interacting with people in person, and without that, it is easy to feel uninspired.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I started Princess Cyberspace as an almost satirical internet brand to promote my modeling career on Instagram. Since my ex-boyfriend was a music producer, we decided to start writing and producing songs together and garnered a cult following for our avant-garde songs and lyrics. Now that I am no longer making music full-time, I am more focused on modeling and promoting consumer products and brands on Instagram, as well as acting (this pays the bills). I hate talking about myself, but I am still known for being a trendsetter in the industry, and a bit ahead of my time with regard to what I do. I guess that makes me a hipster, but I also work for mainstream brands as a model, so the juxtaposition between the two and the ‘mix’ is what I think makes me unique. I am most proud of self-releasing the record called #CYBERPROPAGANDA, which is available on all streaming platforms.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel as though being unique is one of the most important characteristics of my success. Following my heart. Being real. Being brutally honest. Being down for anything. Being independent. And not seeing the world in black and white. I am also a very hard worker; if I am not working on something whether it be something creative or something mundane, I do not feel fulfilled. There is always so much to do in every day, and I try to live every day to the fullest.
