Meet Peter Phun of Peter Phun Photography in Riverside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Phun.

A former staff photographer at Southern California’s 4th largest newspaper, Peter photographed major professional sporting events like tennis, golf, football, baseball, basketball in the Los Angeles area. He also photographed lifestyle portraits and covered breaking news events. After more than a decade, he decided to launch his freelance business and also pursue teaching photography part time.

He has taught photography at Riverside City College, UC Riverside Extension Center, Riverside Art Museum, La Sierra University and Art Institute (Inland Empire).

Peter is only one of 2 photographers whose work is displayed permanently on the walls of the Riverside Convention Center.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I dare say there is no such thing as a smooth road when working for yourself. Every job is a learning experience.

Please tell us about Peter Phun Photography.
I do mostly portraiture on location but I am versatile enough to shoot fashion, architecture, corporate events as well. I’m most proud of being selected to do the Riverside County Supervisors official portraits and also to be one of only two photographers to have pictures permanently on display at the Riverside Convention Center.

Most folks know of my work because of the care I take in lighting my subjects.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When I was probably no more than 3, I got to stand next to my father as he was the master of ceremony at a Sports Day event.
