Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Franco.
Hi Patrick, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey commenced right after high school. Opting for community college, I delved into Exercise Science while simultaneously trying to find a side hustle to fund my tuition. I experimented with various gigs like eCommerce and copywriting, though there was little to no success. Undeterred, I persisted, cultivating a passion for entrepreneurship.
The pivotal moment arrived when I decided to pivot away from Exercise Science and embrace a business degree. Two years later, I reached out to a close high school friend, a successful marketing entrepreneur, seeking mentorship. Graciously, he became my mentor, teaching me a spectrum of skills in marketing and content creation. Using newfound confidence in my skills, I decided to open up my own practice. The infancy of my business was marked by slow progress and unsuccessful cold outreach. Building trust was a challenge, met with persistence, free work, and a gradual ascent in community reputation, eventually attracting clients.
A turning point occurred when I became a subcontractor for Santa Clarita’s premier social media page, WhatsUpSCV, eventually assuming the role of lead videographer. The invaluable mentorship and support from WhatsUpSCV exponentially fueled the growth of my business and honed my skills. A year later, the massive growing of my clientele was too much for me to handle and forced me to expand my team. I recruited a team adept in videography, photography, video editing, social media marketing, and ad campaigns, elevating Focal Point Productions’ efficiency and output quality.
Fast forward to today, I am attending the University of Southern California (USC), where I’m continuing my education in marketing and networking with many new businesses and individuals. I am very excited about this new chapter of Focal Point Productions, and I can’t wait to see what the city of Los Angeles has to offer.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Similar to many business owners, the journey is not always a smooth one. Throughout my time establishing Focal Point Productions, I encountered various obstacles. Whether it was acquiring clients initially, determining my niche, or figuring out how to set pricing, challenges were plentiful. However, the most significant struggle I faced in the early stages of my business was managing all the work solo. From filming and editing to social media marketing and client outreach, I wore many hats. Juggling these responsibilities consumed a considerable amount of energy and left little room for other aspects of my life. I felt as if I was “working IN the business” not “ON the business”. Nevertheless, I am very grateful and believe this experience was a crucial factor in my business’s success. Wearing all those hats allowed me to efficiently streamline processes within my business, and now, I can pass on those insights to my employees.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Focal Point Productions?

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The diversity of businesses and people in Los Angeles is my favorite aspect of the city. Since relocating to LA in 2023, adjusting to city life has been a significant change for me. Having lived in the suburbs for most of my life, the city brought about substantial differences, from the vibrant nightlife to the diverse range of businesses and dining options. Overall, my experience in this city has been immensely positive. Being situated in the heart of Los Angeles has not only opened up numerous opportunities for me but has also greatly benefited my business.
The only thing I dislike about LA is the traffic. Other than that this city is amazing and an inspiring place to be at as an entrepreneur.
