Meet Olha Afanasyeva of Afanasyeva Official in Hollywood and Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olha Afanasyeva.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Olha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a proud Ukrainian immigrant, lived in few European cities before moving to Los Angeles.

This is the city I absolutely love as it has same bright dynamic character as mine. I have been in fashion and hairstyling since 1990. I have even set a number of costume & hair design shows through the time of my career. In LA, I have worked at Yuki Sharoni (Beverly Hills), Martier (Glendale Galleria) and V Design (Studio City) salons.

My style of work is close to traditions of Dessange, Paris: transformational haircuts that evolve into new perfect shapes as the hair grows. I am also very fond of multiple layered hair color, mostly in blond and honey shades. I love to cook, I express my emotions easily and my daughter is one of the top models in California.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think any pass to success is challenging at times. But in general, I have been fortunate enough to have very loyal clientele and supportive family. I have bright personality, expressed in a unique style of haircuts and my self-designed outfits. Naturally I am often seen and heard the first in the room and it can sometimes place some people into the shadow – guess this feature of mine could be outlined as my biggest strength and weakness at the same time.

As for the hair styling – no challenge can be too big if it leads to a great result! I had worked at long-hours fashion photo-shoots with a number of models. I love performing complicated haircuts, styling and color mixtures. I love my clients and models dearly and take care of every tiny lock of their hair, styled to perfection.

I also believe it is essential staying true to my values and rejecting something that would in any way damage quality of my client’s hair or image in general. Same in my life – if it doesn’t feel right – it cannot become my ultimate choice.

Please tell us about Afanasyeva Official.
I am colorist and hairstylist, performing haircuts in unique coiffure technique. My experience includes 25 years of work in Eastern-European, European and American hair salons. Among my services are all kinds of styling and hair color, man-women-kid’s haircuts, bridal and special events hairstyles. I can work independently at any location in LA with any age or gender group. I work a lot with models and sportsmen – they are mostly my clients. Among my projects for fashion and movie industry are styling for photo-shoots, commercials and run-way shows.

My distinctive technique lays in performing precise and considerably complicated layered haircuts for both men and women. Using scissors accurately the technique delivers impressive hair structure without causing any losses of client’s hair. The style of the haircuts I perform is focused on delivering distinction of every lock of hair, which can transform into new shapes as it grows. Basically – there will be no bad hair days for you, no matter if you come to visit me regularly or from time to time!

I am known among my clients for complex mixed color combinations to assure the color is best matching to each unique character, lifestyle and face structure. My signature color pallets are blonds and honey shades. It is essential to me to keep hair healthy and beautiful, assuring any color or chemical influence would cause less damage than it possibly could. I use a lot of semi-permanent colors of European brands.

In styling – my main goal is to always deliver sexiness and passion of any hair, be it for a movie, a photo-shoot, runway show or a special event. My biggest inspiration is art & decor, fashion design and French cuisine.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My homeland is the beautiful Eastern-European country – Ukraine. We have amazing nature, with endless fields of flowers, crossed by the Mountain Rivers. My warmest childhood memory pictures me and my Dad escaping from the rain, jumping over every tiny flower oasis of bluets and daisies. At some point my Dad stopped and said: ‘Always remember the beauty of colors and unique shapes created by the Universe, listen to the sound of rain, and embrace the power of clear water drop….’ I believe this attention to detail and ability to see ascetics in simple things defined me as an elegant creator and a life lover. That’s exactly why California charmed me to stay here forever!
