Meet Nicole Desgroux of Caro Bambino in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Desgroux.

Nicole, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am from Chile and studied fashion design there, then I came to the states to continue my studies in merchandising. Here I reconnected with my childhood friend and now husband, who also came to the states to study and ended up racing motorcycles for a living. We eventually got married and started our family. When I was pregnant with my first baby, we went to so many places and couldn’t find just one store that had everything to fill our needs. For me, having a baby was a real wakeup call when it came to product safety and I wanted one store that did all the research and sold only safe and beautiful products for my new family. That was when I became aware of the need in the market for such a place, so we created it!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have certainly had some obstacles and challenges along the way, but overall I would say it was pretty smooth. In the beginning we really took our time researching products and planning, it was pretty relaxed… we are beach people after all. We didn’t start our business for the money, of course we want the business to thrive and be a success, but we really had a bigger vision in mind, so there is always that to keep us on track. I would say our biggest struggles have been more on the technical side, that part is always a work in progress.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Caro Bambino – what should we know?
Caro Bambino is a specialized baby boutique where new parents or parents-to-be, can find everything they need for their baby. They can also be assured that we have done our research and that our products are not only the best of what the market has to offer but that they are safe for their baby and good for the environment. I am the owner and I do all the buying.

I am proud of the image we created and that we have been able to follow the path that we wanted, by being green and sustainable. We are happy to discover that there was a market for the vision. I am also really proud of the level of customer service we provide and the feeling you get when you visit our store, it’s one of the things that I believe really sets us apart. Yes, we have a beautifully curated selection of products that you won’t find anywhere else, but we are not just here to sell you something, we really want to help and provide a service.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Having a clear vision of what you want really helps also hard work and finding a great team that you can trust .… I am grateful for all of the opportunities life has given me. I think you get what you give in life.
