Meet Nick Nguyen of XCell Repairs in Huntington Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Nguyen.

Nick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was a teenager, I always knew that I would someday run my own business. I opened up my first cell phone store in Dallas, TX back in 1999 when I was 27 years old. I eventually sold my store in 2007. I moved back to California in 2009 and decided to open up a cell phone repair shop. We’re coming up to our 9 years in business mark in a few months.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
After a few bumps on the road of life at the age of 23, I moved to Texas with nothing more than $200 & a change of clothes. I started off at a $6 minimum wage jobs and eventually moved up to $12 working for a flooring company. It’s only after busting my behind for this company and only getting a 50 cent raise that I realized that I had to make a change. I quit the next day, took a loan against my car & opened up my first shop at 27. In 2002, my fiancé passed away and my mind was no longer focused on the business so I lost everything that I had. I tried going back to the corporate world but did not last too long & did not do too well. I moved back to California in 2009 with $1000 and an idea. Opened up shop and here we are coming to our 9 years in business anniversary.

Please tell us about XCell Repairs.
We specialize in cell phone and computer repair both in hardware & software & occasionally do micro repair work on logic boards. What makes us different is that our customers will always come first and we will do whatever it takes to help them in any way. We do repairs on electronic devices that other shops don’t even want to touch.

There’s no job too big or small for us. What I’m most proud of is how is we’ve built a company that treats everyone like family. Discounts are given to veterans, teachers, students, law enforcement, fire, senior citizens, and even kids who come in with good grades will get a discount. In the end, it’s not always about the money but it’s how much you can help one another.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would’ve been more focused and not have taken things for granted.
