Today we’d like to introduce you to Neal Pecchenino.
Neal, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m the sole founder and chief executive officer of Boxi, the nation’s largest truck media platform. We advertise on delivery trucks that are already on the roads, driving consistent routes through cities all over the United States. Yes, these are big white trucks driving around with nothing on them. We’ve perfected the art/process of not only selling but also producing advertising campaigns on these last-mile delivery vehicles for brands that you know and love. The likes of which include the Los Angeles Lakers, MedMen, Stella Rosa Wines, Theragun, Pernod Ricard, and dozens of others.
I grew up in Fresno, California, attended Fresno City College and ultimately transferred to USC’s Marshall School of Business where I learned I was an entrepreneur.
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mind, felt confident about my basic understanding of business and what made companies successful. BUT, prior to my first real venture at 22 in college, I hadn’t fully comprehended what it meant to be an entrepreneur.
What does it mean? It means living on the edge. Being on the brink of control and chaos at all times. Relentlessly pursuing answers to the questions that keep you up at night. Being an entrepreneur isn’t sexy… It’s hard, scary, and lonely. But It’s who I am, and I absolutely love it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not, nor did I expect it to be. I started Boxi in 2017 from my tiny one bedroom apartment in Santa Monica. I did so with my own capital, no co-founders, and through raw persistence. Meaning, every day was a fight and still is. The work we do is complex in that it fuzes trucking/logistics, with out of home advertising, big brands, and technology which ties it all together. There are 5 or 6 different businesses within Boxi that pose constant daily challenges.
In the early days, there was nothing… Literally nothing… I had to build everything from the ground up without the help of a team to help with the heavy lifting. As a result, I became a master of all aspects of the business. Fortunately, I had the drive, the talent, and a few critical/calculated breaks to make it a success.
The biggest struggle for any sole founder is always internal. For example, I can be my biggest cheerleader and also my worst enemy. When the success of the company rides solely on YOU, and your ability to deliver, it’s tough to sustain near perfect work quality. Thankfully, today I’m blessed with an amazing team of like-minded individuals that fight every day to be better and to put an incredible product on the road.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Boxi – what should we know?
As the nation’s largest truck media company, Boxi leads its industry in a number of different ways.
First, we ONLY do trucks… We’re focused like a laser on what we do. We commit all of our time and resources to the art of perfecting the delivery truck advertising campaign.
We only work with the BEST trucks. 1 in 20 trucks that we vet/prescreen get through our qualification process and get launched on campaigns.
Boxi is the most transparent company in our industry. We go out of our way to keep the client informed on all aspects of their campaign.
Our custom technology suite is the only one of its kind in our space. We provide 24/7 access to our clients on a real-time campaign dashboard, allowing the daily routes of the trucks and their campaign analytics to be tracked.
Price… A boxi campaign is significantly less expensive than a traditional billboard campaign, resulting in far more impressions per dollar spent. In addition, when people on the roads see our trucks, they assume what’s on them is what’s in them. This makes brands like MedMen and Silencio look that much bigger with their own delivery fleet. No, those MedMen trucks you saw were not filled with cannabis… They were Boxi trucks, brand advertisements in their purest form.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Relentless, Curiosity, Optimism, Pragmatism, Honesty, Transparency, Competitive drive, Internal Motivation, Grit
