Meet Natalie Takaha of DT La Verne, California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Takaha.

Hi Natalie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I remember the first time my friend gave me a makeover (the classic ritual; taking off the glasses, applying mascara and putting my hair down) looking in the mirror and feeling this instant shift of feeling so confident it was almost ethereal haha. That was my first dip into the beauty world. I have grasped onto that feeling since I was 11. I also realized that I wanted to share that feeling to others. It gradually shifted from makeup to doing my friends eyebrows then esthetician school right after highschool then working at a popular waxing chain then during covid I finally got my dream job working at Sephora. I thought I had really made it but something felt missing. So I started doing brows & brazilians for friends and friends of friends at home and the rest is history.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’m extremely lucky to say the journey of my business has flowed in a naturally cohesive way. What’s meant to be will and I don’t take anything personally, but I also always look at the glass half full.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Of course! I am a solo esthetician that specializes in brows and brazilians. I’m endlessly grateful for the relationships I’ve grown with my clients, the eyebrow transformations I have done over the years and the confidence I can give to clients when they leave my studio. What I feel separates me from others is I have been specializing in thin brows lately which has been so fun! It adds a boldness to the facial structure or can add softness, depending on the brow.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
In the esthetician world mentoring isn’t as popular as it is with in the hair stylist world but I will say you can do SO much research taking courses and exchanging knowledge with other estheticians your mutuals with on social media or classmates in school! The education for new tools, products, and even new methods of practice is always evolving so don’t be shy to try a new method. Taking classes helps so much because not only do you learn new stuff but you also meet people with the same mindset as you! If anyone has any questions I’m always an open book. I don’t believe in gatekeeping, there’s room for everyone.
