Meet Nagham Wehbe of Creators Connect

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nagham Wehbe.

Nagham, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved here 12 years ago from Lebanon. I am a storyteller, a creative consultant, and a media researcher. I studied Radio, Television, and Film at Cal State Fullerton and recently graduated with my master’s degree in Communication Management from University of Southern California.

As a researcher, I utilize primary and quantitative data to facilitate media research to provide audience insights and media strategy recommendations. As a creative consultant, I facilitate creative workshops and classes. I also work with clients on the execution of their creative ideas. As a storyteller, I’ve been involved as a performer or on production teams of various projects around Los Angeles (theater, movies, film festivals, and cultural performances). My last production as a playwright and director was the play “Confessions of an Arab Woman,” adapted from author Joumana Haddad’s memoir. The play won the Encore Producers’ Award and was extended by the 2017 Hollywood Fringe Festival. My current production is the adaption of “The Seamstress’ Daughter” novel, by the same author. The play will premiere with a book launch event in 2020 at the Odyssey Theatre in L.A. followed by a tour around the country. For schedule, check @theseamstressdaughter.theplay on Instagram and Facebook.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an independent artist has its challenges. It’s not a smooth road especially when you constantly must make choices and compromises about your time and resources. Also, doing whatever it takes to balance a daytime job, finish grad school, and still be active creatively. Time and money can get in the way sometimes; however, I’ve learned to take it one project at a time and one day at a time. I’d rather tackle the challenges as they come and create my opportunities instead of waiting. I believe that you get out what you put in.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Other than “The Seamstress’ Daughter” play right now, I am working with the Asian World Film Festival team on the 2020 festival that will be in Culver City at the end of the year. Whatever the project is and no matter what hat I’m wearing, I am an advocate for diversity and true representation. I believe in collaborations and that giving is the key ingredient to living.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Knowing your “why”, commitment, integrity, discipline, and having the right team and people around you.
