Today we’d like to introduce you to Mustapha Kay.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mustapha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is mustapha Kay. I’m from Sierra Leone west Africa. I was born Jan 15, 1996. I was sent away from my home at a young age due to family complications with my biological sister Adama. We were sent to an orphanage where we were later adopted by Jeffrey Kay and Alice Roberge. We grew up primarily in Vermont but live in New Hampshire first. Africa really built the foundation of whom I would become today due to the trials and tribulations we went through emotional and socially.
Growing up, I’ve always been in love with the spotlight. From social settings to plays, competitive sports and everything else I did, I wanted to be the best. I was usually one of the most popular kids everywhere I went throughout schooling especially college amongst 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students. I went to West Virginia University where I really honed my social skills by making the school a giant stage where I was the only act. Once I learned how to effectively communicate: emotionally, socially and professionally, I was ready to take on the world. I never really saw myself working at a desk or in a business setting because I really enjoyed amazing and awing individuals with various talents. I play piano, guitar, trombone, I snowboard, I play ping pong and I give people run for their money in basically anything else someone wants to bet on. Finesse Kings started in college, with just a lifestyle, then we started making clothing, vlogs, and music and hosting crazy parties.
After my senior year of college in 2018, I moved to Pittsburgh Pa for one year and got everything together to make the long drive across the country into Beverly Hills California with my best friend. We were very blessed to gain traction rapidly through social interactions. We did a shoot where we met Dushaun Thompson who is director and creator of a show called Exile that has not been released yet. I am a main character on the show so I’m excited for the post-production and everything to come to life. Also, we have done a couple of shows on the East Coast with thousands of people since we moved to LA. I am a promoter at night clubs in the West Hollywood scene and Santa Monica, so my social reach has grown rapidly. I have now been the face of Lumin Skin Care Ads for months running now with multiple millions on millions of views on every social media platform. I have done aviation commercials, tons of music videos, hosting events and shows. I have released songs and we are in the process of releasing a whole new album for the FKP Brand.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth one to say the least like many people who move to LA, our biggest struggles initially were mostly financially related. I’ve had to deal with working overnight at Macy’s and being tired beyond belief everyday going to work, or going on set. My best friend and I had one car between the two of us for a while so transportation was difficult. We ran into an issue of doing a lot of work for very little pay which we later realized. The area we moved to was not the kindest after Beverly Hills because we did no research. We’ve had a lot of bad luck with subtenants while we are away and a whole host of other things.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about FKP (Finesse King Productions) – what should we know?
Our company is Finesse King Productions. We specialize in music-making, dance entertainment, party planning and event hosting. I handle a lot of the business portion of our company such as books, social relation maintenance acts. Andersons small the co-owner and founder handles a lot of the creative aspect because he is very good with social media etc.
We are very well known for the lifestyle that comes with the Finesse King brand. We have a fearless way of living and we do things immediately so a lot of people want to be on the same wave so they don’t miss out on life and its various opportunities.
I am most proud of the company because myself and Anderson take a lot of pride in the relationship we maintain with each other as roommates, business partners, and best friends and it goes to show with the right communication and energy the sky is the limit.
What sets us apart from other people is that we are foot soldiers socially, we don’t only like to have social media presence but we are very welcoming of people into our everyday lives.
Our Vlog is coming soon, so everyone who can’t be there in person can follow along.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
A couple of people that have played a monumental role in my coming up to the position I’m in over the past two years are: Anderson small (business partner best-friend and long time roommate), Wesley Jackson (best friend, future business partner, we mentor each other ), Jacob Anderson/ Collin Anderson (twin brothers, childhood friends that have been there for me emotionally, socially and financially), Nigel France (big brother figure gave me a lot of direction), also Shai Baker (he is a long time friend, old business partner and we push each other).
