Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Nicole Gerrard.
Michelle Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Stories within stories. The road to where I am today was long and winding, woven to others’ stories and journies and filled with leaps of faith along the way. My childhood was the foundation for everything I have created. I always thrived in nature surrounded by color, sound, textures, and smells. I wanted to feel everything, no matter if it was unpleasant or magnificent, I wanted to experience it all.
I am a poet. An explorer. A chronic illness warrior. A brand consultant. Photographer in training. Food stylist. Vegan chef. I built my brand with roots in the idea of creating a safe landing place for all beings. To give moments of beauty and escape, but also a place to sit in reality and truly talk about it. Books, services, recipes, poetry. All the things that keep us able to endure.
I truly believe in the power of healing through organic whole foods and living a life in alignment with nature. I also firmly believe that the more we care, the more we give, and the more we show up for people… the more powerful we become. None of us are simply one thing. We are multitudes.
The person and I am and the brand I have built is always growing and expanding. It is what it is due to the experiences that have shaped me and the people who have supported me.
Has it been a smooth road?
I have yet to encounter a road without at least a couple of bumps. There have been countless obstacles that have taught me so much. From the loss of my best friend at 28 years old to my own illness worsening and becoming intimate with the thin line between life and death. I had to learn to cook without tasting the food I created, write within grief. And yet every obstacle opened doors to something entirely new. Grateful for all the lessons.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My company started over ten years ago as The Vibrant Kitchen. I was a private vegan chef and recipe creator for many of those years. In the past three years, a lot has changed. My brand is now my name as I wanted a place where all of my passions could join together.
I am a poet and writer. I have one self-published book as well as works in multiple anthologies, and a book that is soon to be published this upcoming year! I also write for magazines, brands, etc. Bringing us to the Social Media Consulting Services included in my offerings.
Social Media is what built my brand and I work with other brands to help them form engaged communities that are based on real connection and the telling of their stories as people. I love bringing people to life through words and photography.
Food will always be a beautiful force in my company. I still do recipe development as well as share about the power of food for community and gathering.
My deepest want is for people to feel nourished. To feel like they are seen and heard. These are my most treasured moments. When people are moved by a poem, when a brand finds growth and connections that feel amazing, and when people receive moments of bliss from my creations in the kitchen.
Every day I aim to create a space that is safe for all beings and an environment that cultivates creative collaboration and partnerships.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I am hoping that in writing, social media and food that BIPOC creators get the recognition they deserve. I hope all of these industries begin to shift to work for people and the environment. More sustainability, more connection to the globe. Less individual and more about the collective.
I see it happening in small ways, but my hope? Large changes that break down old systems and build new ones.
