Meet Michelle Nava

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Nava.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles CA. Growing up, I was fascinated by the beauty industry and knew I wanted to be a hairdresser or a makeup artist. After high school, I went straight to beauty school and from the first day was completely in my element. After beauty school, I was hungry to learn as much as I could and started assisting some of the best stylists in the biz. I assisted for five years. I finally came into my own when I took a job at a Blonding Salon on Fairfax. I built my clientele there and then realized that my dream was to work for myself and also offer other services aside from blonding. I moved into my own Salon Suite on Canon Drive In Beverly Hills at Salon 90210 Called Michelle Nava Beverly Hills and I now offer full services. Such as blonding, men and womens hair cuts, Brazilian blowouts and much more. My specialty is balayage and foilayage keeps my clients blonde all year but I also offer precision haircuts and all other hair color services to non blonde clients. I have now been in the industry for ten years

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey in the hair industry has been very fun and also very interesting. The only struggles I faced early on was trying to live off of an assistants pay wage and also to really let my walls down and really put in the time after work to learn techniques my mentors were trying to teach me. Its been a smooth road in the sense that I was able to experience a few different salon environments and had the chance to work under a few different stylists which helped me learn different techniques but also learn different ways of doing business. I was able to have a larger perspective and now have a clear idea and vision for what I want my own business to look like and what I want to be known for in the industry.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
My Salon is a full-service Salon but 85% of my clients are blonde. My specialty is balayage and also Foilayage. I pride myself on offering my clients blonde that can last months and still look good with a soft grow out. My Salon is a safe space for clients of all ethnicities, ages, genders, and social status’s. When my clients sit in my chair they know its a safe space. Where they can relax and just be themselves. My space is the least bit intimidating and I think my approach to building genuine connections with my clients sets me apart from other salons.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think being a perfectionist has been the most important factor when it comes to my success behind the chair. I have taken many classes and continue to further my education so I can deliver High quality work.
