Meet Michelle Bassler of Blonde Peacock in Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Bassler.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been an artist. I was having art shows in Honolulu, Hawaii and realized that I didn’t like to part with my original pieces. This sparked the idea of screen printing because it’s a way to reproduce your art but having the touch of hand printed items still makes each piece unique. I took a bus to NYC with some of my first creations and sold them all. From there, I moved to California to further pursue my dream of combining my love of photography, travel and making. I’ve worked on my company over the years while working other jobs in the art field until January 1st, 2017 when I made the leap of faith to go full time with my business. It’s been amazing ever since!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely been a challenge, but that’s what I love about having my own business. The most challenging aspect is that you have to create everything for yourself. There is no roadmap to follow and no one telling you what or how to do it, which is both challenging and rewarding. I wouldn’t have it any other way-even with the struggles!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Blonde Peacock – what should we know?
Blonde Peacock is a lifestyle, yoga clothing brand. All of the designs are photos that I’ve taken around the world especially spiritually powerful places like India, Nepal, Bali, Thailand, Joshua Tree and Yosemite. What sets this brand apart from others is that all of the designs actually come from somewhere instead of created on a computer. I go to these countries for weeks at a time, exploring, getting a feel for the place and culture and walking hundreds of miles. I have traveled to many countries on my own and hope to inspire other women to travel solo and follow their dreams when sharing my story with them.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance.
