Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj Mikeman aka Michael Anderson.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started as a teenager listening to the local radio mix shows. After buying a cheap mixer from radio shack and endless hours practicing, the rest is history.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not as smooth as I would have liked it. I didn’t have anyone actually show me how to Dj. I literally learned by listening to other dj’s and then going home and trying to imitate the sounds/mixes that I heard from other Djs.
DJ Mikeman – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from others?
I’m dj who actually Dj’s. When I listen to new music, in my mind I’m trying to figure out what could I mix this new song with. I specialize in mixing on the radio and making people dance. My main genre is Hip hop, R&B, top 40, & dancehall. I’m most known for my mixing style and always striving for a clean mix, no train wrecks (lol). I’m most proud of the connections I’ve made and things that I’ve accomplished as a DJ while also working a full-time career.
What sets me apart from others is the fact that even though I work full time, I don’t view Dj’n as a hobby, I view it as a lifestyle and passion of mine. Listening to and mixing music is my outlet away from some of the stressors of my career. Just incase you’re curious, my career is in the fire service, I’m a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as setting a goal and achieving that goal. The markers I look for are daily/weekly markers. For example, am I one step closer to my goal today than I was yesterday/last week.
