Today we’d like to introduce you to Mich Ferro.

Hi Mich, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey, I’m Mich Ferro! I’m a classically trained actor and dancer with rockstar ambitions. In my hometown on the Central Coast of California I trained in several dance styles, but ballet ultimately stole my heart. While dance remained my primary focus for several years, I also began acting and singing in theatre productions, which served as a natural transition for my passion for performance. I have continually studied the arts in a devoted capacity, graduating from the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts (PCPA) and earning my BFA from Cornish College of the Arts.

Music has always been the bridge between my passions, and a driving inspiration. While living in Seattle, I finally decided to write my own and I’ve now released my debut EP Own Me. Currently, I live in Los Angeles, in pursuit of sharing my love for music and storytelling on stage and on the screen.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say the road has been smooth, nor glamorous. I’ve felt called to the life of an artist since childhood–for better or worse! The idea of being a professional creative has always glittered in my eyes, but the reality of trying to break into the industry without the benefits of connections and financial security is a rat race. I find comfort in the crews of artists who share this experience. Together, we are unified and equalized–I believe there is room for all of us.

Today, while I grow in my confidence and accomplishments, I find myself constantly fighting for the next opportunity. Living in one of the biggest markets in the world is fabulous, yet it’s also saturated in every way possible. It takes incredible persistence to make your voice heard, but I have been blessed with the opportunity to throw my hat in the ring and I know I have a swinging chance!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My music is sensitive, hypnotic, and punky. I feel deeply, and I aim to emulate that in the work. Ethereal harmonies, poetic musings, and killer guitars are some of my favorite elements of my EP Own Me. My work is balanced, observant of beauty, introspective, and curious of darkness. I have always been drawn to new mediums, whether it be dance, music, acting, physical art, nurturing–I am adaptable, a jack of all trades. I just want to create and collaborate. I excel most when working with others and am inspired by those I see chasing the dragon and making good on their goals. At the core of my work, I seek to connect with others and to honor our humanity. Isolation is an experience I believe we all share at some point, and if I can create some comfort and joy for others through my art, I can feel like I’ve done a bit of good in this world.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking is a critical part of career advancement, and yet it can be one of the most challenging parts to master. I’ve found great opportunities by joining community groups and asking organizations I am interested in if they need any help (because everybody needs a hand!) with their endeavors. Showing you are willing to jump in at any point in the process demonstrates reliability and a willingness to work hard. While those characteristics are common for any job, they really can be a golden ticket into your development as a career expert. I am always seeking opportunities in person that can further my community expansion personally and professionally. The life of a freelance artist can be lonely! We deeply need connection to ground ourselves. When I feel untethered, I reassess my interests, and look for a places and people I can be useful to. Don’t be afraid to cold email!
