Today we’d like to introduce you to Messy, But Thriving.
Hi Messy, but Thriving, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We were at brunch one day, just yapping. We were jokingly like “we should start a podcast!” It was one of those moments where you laugh at the joke, and then you take a step back and think–wait, but what if? We kind of decided on the spot that we should consider it; we walked to the beach, took a little selfie and filmed our first two episodes about a month later. Mind you, this was probably the second time the three of us hung out together. Kaira and Shawna knew each other from grad school, and Allison and Kaira met on BumbleBFF. But there was just a vibe and an energy in our conversation that day that we all picked up on. It flowed naturally and we all felt comfortable and supported–from the beginning, our story has genuinely embodied the sentiment of “Messy, but Thriving”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In our personal lives, it hasn’t always been a smooth road, and our podcast topics are often loosely based on the events and dynamics we’re currently navigating—or things we’ve experienced in the past that still affect us to this day. But having this space to come together, discuss, reflect, and learn from one another has been so healing. It truly embodies the idea of being “Messy, but Thriving.” We’re not perfect, but we find so much beauty in the process and in the growth we experience both as individuals and as a team.
On the technical side, there have certainly been hiccups along the way, but we figure them out together and give ourselves grace. We filmed a special episode where the post-production took us weeks because the audio and video files were just too large for any of our devices to process. That was funny, but rewarding once we figured it out. We do our best not to rush things—when the moment feels right and we’re ready, we slowly upgrade our gear and setup to deliver better quality content, all while staying true to our brand and authentic presentation. Looking back at where we started versus where we are now is almost endearing. It’s funny to look back at our early quality and setup, but it really documents how much we’ve grown, both technically and as people.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are three women in our, now, late-twenties who have a podcast where we discuss how we are navigating this era. Most of our content is pretty open-ended, covering topics from mental health, career, and ambition, to personal relationships and trusting your intuition.
We strive to be honest with our audience—we aren’t experts, if you need help, do not come to us. We’re all just humans figuring things out along the way. So many spaces online offer expert advice, hyper-polished productivity routines, or neat step-by-step guides to navigating your twenties. For us, the value is in the real-time processing and normalizing that middle ground—the awkward, unpolished, in-between moments of growth. We want to build community, bonded by the sometimes, not so proud moments, but also the moments worth celebrating. It feels less like listening to a show and more like catching up with your closest friends who make you feel a little less alone in the chaos.
What matters most to you? Why?
I think we can all agree that we highly value authenticity in our work. So much can be fabricated online and we don’t want to perpetuate unrealistic standards. Being vulnerable online and sharing our stories, community is our metric of success. More than anything, we want this community we cultivate to be rooted in genuine perspectives and support.
