My sister and I started our journey in a very small room with a big dream. We began with very little, working hard to build our clientele and grow our business step by step. It wasn’t always easy—there were many challenges and sacrifices along the way—but we stayed focused and continued to believe in what we were building.

Over time, our small room grew into something much bigger. We eventually had the opportunity to purchase our salon and create Merli Beauty. The name “Merli” is especially meaningful to us because it is a combination of our names, Meri and Lilit, and represents everything we have built together as sisters.

Looking back, the journey from that small room to owning and growing our own salon makes us incredibly proud. Every challenge taught us something, and every step helped shape Merli Beauty into what it is today. Our story is really about hard work, persistence, sisterhood, and turning a small beginning into a dream we continue to grow every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. When my sister and I started in Los Angeles, we were truly starting from zero. We didn’t have an established clientele or a network here, so we had to build everything from the ground up.

We specialized in Russian Volume lashes, which at the time was still a relatively new technique in our community. In the beginning, we were nervous because we didn’t know how people would respond to the style, but we believed in our work and continued to perfect our technique. Little by little, clients started noticing the results, recommending us to others, and our business began to grow.

There was a period when my sister and I were working Monday through Sunday with no days off, and our schedules were completely full. It was exhausting, but it was also the moment we realized that what we had created was becoming something much bigger than the two of us could handle alone.

As the demand continued to grow, we gradually started bringing other talented artists onto our team. Step by step, we went from two sisters working in a small room to building a team and eventually creating Merli Beauty.

The journey required a lot of sacrifice, long hours, patience, and taking risks without knowing exactly where they would lead. But every challenge helped us grow, both personally and professionally, and shaped Merli Beauty into the business it is today

We’ve been impressed with Merlibeauty , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Merli Beauty is a sister-owned beauty salon built around quality, personalized service, and making every client feel confident and beautiful. What began with our specialty in Russian Volume lashes has grown into a full-service beauty destination offering lash extensions, brows, hair services, nails, makeup, and more.

Lashes will always be a special part of our identity. We specialize in creating customized lash sets based on each client’s eye shape, features, and personal style—from very natural looks to fuller Russian Volume sets. We believe beauty services should never feel one-size-fits-all.

As Merli Beauty grew, we carefully expanded our team and services while maintaining the quality and attention to detail that helped us build our clientele from the beginning. We are especially proud of the trust and loyalty we have developed with our clients, many of whom have supported us throughout our journey.

What sets Merli Beauty apart is that there is a personal story behind the brand. “Merli” is a combination of our names, Meri and Lilit, and the salon represents everything we have built together as sisters. We want people to know that Merli Beauty is more than a salon to us—it is a brand we built from the ground up with passion, hard work, and a genuine love for the beauty industry.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Education has always been very important to both of us. We both have master’s degrees and come from academic backgrounds outside of the beauty industry—one of us studied linguistics and literature, while the other studied economics. We believe that education taught us discipline, communication, critical thinking, and the importance of always continuing to learn.

In the beauty industry, social media—especially Instagram—has also become an important resource for us. We use it not only to share our work, but to follow new trends, techniques, products, and talented professionals from around the world.

We also continue to invest in professional education and training because the beauty industry is always evolving. We never want to feel like we already know everything. That combination of formal education, continued professional learning, and staying connected to our industry has played an important role in how we have grown Merli Beauty.
