Meet Megan Cochrane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Cochrane.

Megan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in a very rural town called Mattawan, Michigan. To give you a clearer image of my hometown: there was a cow farm directly across from our high school. Your typical midwest girl, I lived on a farm, rode and showed horses, and was even crowned the Van Buren Youth Fair Queen (yes, that’s a real thing) and Miss Mattawan in 2013. I am your typical small-town girl with big dreams who made the 2,000 mile trek to LA in 2017 with all of my belongings and myself packed into a Hyundai Sonata.

Like many other midwest transplants, I caught the acting bug at a young age, and it quickly became my passion. My parents enrolled me in a drama camp one summer, thinking it would be something fun to try. From then on, I was in every show at my middle school and high school, performed regularly at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre, and continued on to earned my BFA in Acting from Michigan State University. The stage was my first love, and I have such a soft spot for it in my heart, but film became a growing interest through a partnership with film students in college. This led to my feature film debut at the Traverse City Film Festival.

Los Angeles has opened so many avenues in the three short years I have been here. I’ve booked a co-star in a western reenactment series, appeared on a gameshow, filmed several short films with friends, and have even attended a couple of film festivals featuring these projects. I’ve also expanded my network of artists and collaborators, making this huge city feel like an intimate home full of friendly faces with beautiful ideas. I’m so grateful to be here participating in this industry and continuously learning my craft.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been easy at all! The entertainment industry is tough, it’s subjective, and it is flooded with talent. It can be difficult to shine through. However, I’ve surrounded myself with encouraging and talented people who lift me up and inspire me to get creative and find the truth in my storytelling. I’ve also found that the competition in this town pushes me to hone my craft and distill my “casting” because specifics are so powerful. While the road may not be smooth, I find this path incredibly rewarding – creatively and spiritually.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m an actor with a strong theatrical background and film training. I have an eye for details and an impeccable work ethic. As an advanced horseback rider, it’s my goal to meld my two worlds together and find projects that allow me to utilize my equestrian skills in a role, be it a western or a modern country tale.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m very excited about creating my own work. I’ve got a couple of projects that I’ve written and plan to shoot later this year/early next year. I love the idea of creating our own opportunities as actors. I think our passion and our point of view shines brighter when we are passionate about the work we are doing. I can’t wait to produce my own work and collaborate with others to make these stories come to life.
