Meet Lourin Blair of Lourin Blair Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lourin Blair.

Lourin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have learned just about everything from my mama, her sisters and my old earth (my grandma). The last 7 years I begun to understand their decisions and way of being in a way I hadn’t been able to before. There is no doubt that they paved the way for me to get this far, to just do things and see where traps lay before I fall into them.

As a child I saw many injustices, I used art to bring out what was within, which I still do to this day.

As far as videography + filmmaking goes, it was a favor for a friend, a borrowed camera and a glowing review that lit the way to the creation of Lourin Blair Films. Perseverance and my desire to convey messages of genuine love is what makes me stay.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh my goodness, well.

Every decision I’ve made (or not) has brought its challenges, they are puzzles I cannot avoid even though sometimes I would like to. In the end, I know it’s challenges that pave my way or add to my style.

One of my challenges is being online as an introvert. I like to keep the focus on the work and all that inspired it, that’s been my approach to capturing weddings as well. My ability to thrive in silence and make the camera grab exactly what I feel gives the wedding life. The colors, natural lighting, the moon and laughter… I am mastering the art of redirection.

Lourin Blair Films – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Lourin Blair Films specializes in wedding cinematography + family filmmaking. Eva and myself capture creative content on the day of and I go home to lace it all together with a song and audio.

At the wedding we just covered, some of the bridesmaids caught a glimpse of my footage and loved how I made it look ‘cinematic’, I think that’s what draws majority of clients. They see that I am not editing commercials but their family history and that’s a beautiful thing as I’ve come to learn. While weddings may be romantic, life is real with situations we won’t always like and some times that means our loved ones leave or are taken from us and all we have left are memories but at the moment, we also have photos + video…

My films have changed so much since I first started, all my work has evolved and will continue to. I am just so thankful for my clients and for having time to smell the roses with those I love.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am thankful with a pinch of pride at every inquiry, booking, and delivery of film, like ‘yess, I did it’, but it never ends there. I just keep going, making the proud moments roll with me.

I do get booked for weddings in San Diego and that brings me to all smiles because that’s where my family is. I come to my tias and cousins with coffee and time, we sit around, talking about the happenings in life.

Back in Los Angeles, I like to spend my Sunday’s with my partner. Growing up, my dad would do his best to not work those days and just be home or we would sell at the swap meet, a proud moment for me is being able to continue that.
