Meet Lorenzo Davis of Lorenzo Lamont Fitness in Compton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorenzo Davis.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lorenzo. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ha! Funny thing is my journey started in the LA county jail. I’ve always enjoyed working out. It was there I got the spark donned on me. Previously I was just living life with no purpose. After an ACL tear ended my hoop dreams, I didn’t really know which direction to go. Made a few bad moves and ended up at the LA county jail facility.

Soon as I got in I was pretty sized up so I did what any other dude would do and worked out to pass time. Couple dudes started to join me and I was leading the workouts. During the moments, I made the decision to get my life right and start training. So I got out, hit a few friends up and the rest was history.

Has it been a smooth road?
In no way has it been smooth. From the outside looking in, I thought it would be. I had it all planned out. It was good starting off then when ish hit fan maaaaaaaaannnn the stress and everything else gets to you. Ruining your own shoe has its pros and cons. One of the best cons is money. What I mean by that is it’s always a time of year business slows down. Now you’re stuck not knowing. It’s a grind in the industry and a lot of broken promises. You have to really be dedicated and be able to make it happen no matter what. At times I’ve wanted to quit but knew I couldn’t because this was where my heart was at. I’ve literally been dead broke and never completely gave in. At times I’ve just started over and really got down to it and made it happen. During those bad times were the times I really knew I was cut out for this industry.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I consider myself self-employed. I’m a personal trainer. I’m mobile. So I can go anywhere on God’s green earth and hold a workout. No matter age, gender, color or size. I’m an athlete. Multiple sport athletes. So I know what it takes. I’ve been through it.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Like everything things will change. To remain successful you have to change with it. Make things easier for the people. Keep evolving as a person and as a brand. At the same time, remember the basics. The fundamentals are what got you there.
