Meet Lise Porter and Geno Carvalho of liseporter.com and mindbodyfood.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lise Porter and Geno Carvalho.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lise and Geno. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Geno Carvalho of http://mindbodyfood.com/ and I have just started a business collaboration. We’ll be co-leading a yoga wellness retreat in March or April of 2018 in Joshua Tree. We’ll be inviting folks from the LA area. We’re very excited about this event! It will fuse Geno’s specializations in yoga, nutrition and fitness with my background in psychology, mental health, and the arts. The retreat will include yoga, discussions, hikes, OMwork and group activities.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My work centers on helping individuals and organizations clarify their sense of purpose while working through obstacles and challenges that limit potential. My aim is to help people feel more empowered, happy and at peace. In all my work I utilize aspects of my mental health background, mind/body practices and creative tools to help clients find solutions. The end goal is to be more aware of and excited by life’s possibilities!

What sets me apart is that I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT40726) and performing artist, so I bring an interdisciplinary approach to healing and teaching work. I have taught extensively on mental health issues throughout the nation and I am a published author and motivational speaker. My book, “Own Your Life: How Our Wounds Become Our Gift” is available on Amazon. I also provide workshops in the corporate world and bring my relational and creative skills into that arena. When I’m not facilitating workshops, I spend my time writing and acting in film.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The world is starving for coping strategies to better handle daily life and to gain increased understanding of mental health issues and wellness. I see the need for stress management only increasing. People want to move beyond surviving to a place of thriving. I see the demand for wellness practices growing exponentially. Likewise, the impact of social media and technology on our attention spans and central nervous systems means we’ll need ways to unplug and to better focus. This is why Geno and I wanted to collaborate by bringing in his expertise in yoga, nutrition and fitness and my background in mental health.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge I personally face in my business is balancing a considerable amount of travel teaching with seeing clients in Los Angeles and pursuing acting and writing too! All three are important to me. Although I love teaching and travel, I adore being home in the city of Angels. Yoga is the thread that keeps me sane and balanced. Otherwise, I’d be overwhelmed with the juggling act and frustrations of not having enough time. This is how Geno and I connected professionally. He is an amazing yoga instructor and we have a mutual love of helping people discover their passions in life.
