Today we’d like to introduce you to Liliana Burgos.
Hi Liliana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
2016 I was throwing small markets and doing pop ups around and in Los Angeles as a local diy event coordinator , which was easy for me to do because at the same time i was participating in music lots! from bars to backyards as I like to say, I would vend, or play.
I grew up in South Bay/LBC going to small businesses weekly with my family,
My parents brought me up in a culture of hand me downs, swapmeets and yard sales.
A hustlers mentality was how they taught me that one can be crazy enough to make money (or something!!) out of nothing! As a kid I sold jewelry, candy, burned cds etc. i guess that’s why it feels natural to do something like this!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
there are definitely ups and downs to being your own small business. It’s a daily reminder often to keep swimming 🙂
There’s now more than artistic pursuit; it’s more responsibilities and a promise to oneself for sure!
There have been days where it’s been dead as heck
Or days when the heat wouldn’t allow for ourselves or customers to hang at the shop
Each time we are asking ourselves to commit to a routine to solve our problems !
It still feels like there’s a lot of inner work to do too like having to give one self days off or empathy or even to tell ourselves to shut up or be vulnerable which are very real and can def come up daily while doing stuff.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Te Adoro Vintage ?
Te Adoro vintage sells memories, trinkets, vintage and contemporary fun (for everyone!)
We specialize currently in 50’s- Y2K nostalgia but we def have antique and more contemporary goodies as well. You can find media, local hustlers creations, memorabilia of the whimsical kind.
The shop is a culmination of inner confidence, daring to dream, creating a third space for others like me and my way of honoring my families experiences (i am a first generation).
We like to think we bridge affordability and fashion in a way that also combats fast fashion AND also encourages a self sustaining community. What better way than a cute lil vintage store throwing events sometimes and offering cool clothes and allowing creatives to take up space here once in a while.
It’s my goal to inspire inner confidence in a way I always as a youth wanted to be, whether it be thru style, business, music, pop ups etc.
our style is 60’s – 90’s centered , with an extra emphasis on celebrating latiné whimsy 🙂 you can anything between your abuelas kitchen home decor, to designer pieces.
I never thought I’d ever end up with a vintage store, but it’s always been my dream to march to the beat of my own drums. And it’s led me here!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
In reference to Boyle heights,I really like how close it is to get to places that are daily essentials. Like tamales, coffee shops and a film shop.
What I like the least are lack of care the city has for its people in general as far as clean sidewalks, more even streets and a more rapid and useful response to things that affect us.
