Today we’d like to introduce you to Lex Lu.
Lex, please share your story with us.
I started as a professional dancer at the age of 16. I established myself at the top of the game working with artists as big as Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West while performing at every award show and traveling on tour to 30+ countries. Making the switch to being a full-time recording artist was next on my list.
Although the top of my game as a dancer, I started at the bottom of the recording artist ranks having to prove my worth and talent. With a few people that believed in me, I found a sound and my identity as a creator of music. I also learned to record myself and others. I released a few mixtapes and I also dropped a few albums my most recent being “LexAngeles” in April of 2017. There is a 3 story mural of me on 48th/western in South Central created by artist Starfighter Angelena + Jay Kantor which really drives home the fact that I am “LexAngeles” lol 2018 started out as a big year for me as I was cast as one of the original four on season one of FOX’s “The Four” Battle for stardom.
It brought me into a bigger light as an artist and my fan base went up quickly. Its really taught me discipline and showed me the value of myself as an artist. There are so many amazing creators in the world, I really have to work hard to stand out from the rest. Work ethic is everything. Since my season ended I’ve been working on a new ep to release at the top of July titled “So Far” which be released on all streaming platforms. I also have an accessory line called “The Goods” which will be premiering in July.
Still an independent artist, everything I do it’s because I will it to be. It’s all about making a plan and going for it no matter what. My goal as a creator is to inspire whoever is willing to listen by proving anything is possible. 😉
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
SO MANY! As an independent artist, there are no promises and no steady income. If you have a dream its almost impossible to obtain without consistent pressure. Even then, there is no financial stability so you have to balance being a creative and being realistic.
The bills don’t pay themselves. I’ve found other ways to bring income in without locking into a normal 9-5. I songwriter for artists all over the world using a platform called Sound better. Also, I’m a mother. So balancing motherhood with my art is probably the most difficult. I make it happen. 😉
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lex Lu – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a recording artist. I sing and rap. My music blends Hip Hop, Pop, soul into a unique sound. I’ve been compared to Left Eye and I’ve been compared to Gwen Stefani. So it’s safe to say I have a well-rounded sound. I’m most proud to be able to create so much quality content (music/visuals) being independent. If I had major backing the possibilities would be endless.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to release my album “So Far” at the top of July 2018. I’ve also geared up to release my accessory line called “The Goods” and jumping on tour this summer to show off my awesome stage show I’ve been preparing.
