Meet Lenka Ulrichova of Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lenka Ulrichova

Hi Lenka , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started as a model in Prague. When I came to the US, I did a little bit more modeling, but I quickly began to realize that I was much more interested in what was happening on the other side of the camera. That’s when I started experimenting with photography. I enrolled in graphic design course at UCLA and took photography classes at Santa Monica College.

Within a year, I was testing with LA model agencies and got my first magazine assignments.

Today, I mostly shoot fashion, beauty and celebrity.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had an easy start but the further along I got, the more competitive it became. Perseverance and not giving up is mostly what got me through these challenges. It’s definitely not easy and requires a lot of dedication, passion and commitment.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Although I do a lot of fashion and celebrity photography, my largest body of work is in beauty. I spent almost a decade shooting beauty editorials for magazines such as MARIE CLAIRE, Elle, Cosmopolitan, L’Officiel, and Grazia, among others. I take the most pride from the shoots I produce myself — they reflect my style and personal taste more than just about anything else I shoot.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is a big part of it! It is a lot of hard work and dedication but at the end of the day, we are dependent on other people liking our work to give us work.
