Meet Laura Schuler of Laura Schuler Studio in Hermosa Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Schuler.

Laura, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a self-taught abstract artist. I started painting professionally shortly after moving to Los Angeles, CA. After leaving behind an engineering career in the Washington, DC area and dealing with the uncertainty of another move, I went back to my roots to develop a career that could follow me.

One of the first paintings I made sold on social media and from there, I was really curious as to where this could go. Websites were stood up, exhibitions were soon on my calendar, and just a few months ago, I received gallery representation.

Today, I’m making a move towards much larger paintings and using color palettes that I have not experimented with in the past.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an artist is a very interesting career. There’s this cycle of falling in and out of love with your work. You just have to find your process and follow it. If for some reason your art takes a hard left you don’t have to share it with the world. Art is very iterative… we’re lucky to have social media for the purposes of feedback and improvement.

The biggest struggle is ourselves. Fall in love with your work. Be able to talk about it. Share it with others. Do these things and you’ll struggle less.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Laura Schuler Studio – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m an emerging abstract artist and I create large mixed media paintings. I’m constantly looking for different marks to make using acrylic paint, spray paint, oil pastel, and marker. I work with a handful of interior designers to create custom commissioned pieces for their clients and build my own canvas pieces.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’ve been working hard to build a large body of bigger artworks. I’ve been painting six days a week for several hours a day. My next goal is to have an artwork featured on tv or film. Fingers crossed, I make that happen in 2019.
