Meet Kim Bergman of Growing Generations in Midtown and Museum Square

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Bergman.

Kim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In the 90’s I was a busy LA psychologist in private practice working with lots of different clients and especially working with lesbian and gay clients. I was also a lesbian mom at a time where that was not easy, and the path was not yet worn. I was helping other lesbians on the path to parenthood when I met one of the founders of Growing Generations as the company was just beginning and he asked me if I would “help out” as a psychologist.

I honestly didn’t know much about surrogacy but I knew that I could learn. Gradually my pro-bono part-time gig became a full time calling and I became a partner in the company very early on. This was almost 20 years ago and we have now helped thousands of people become parents through surrogacy and egg donation.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Forging a new path is a complex process–there was no handbook for how it’s done! We have met and challenged obstacles along the way especially as we fought for access and legal rights for our LGBTQ parents through our support of organizations like the Family Equality Council.

And we’ve had our share of growing pains but our commitment to helping people fulfill their dreams of parenthood always pulls us through. We have an amazing team of dedicated individuals and we are all willing to grow and develop together so that our intended parents, surrogates, egg donors can have a treasured experience.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Growing Generations – what should we know?
Growing Generations is a full-service agency that provides surrogacy and egg donation to anyone who needs help to create their family. We manage all aspects of the complex process including putting together the team of outside experts (lawyer, doctor, psychologist, insurance), screening and matching with the surrogate and egg donor and managing all of the aspects of the process from start to finish.

Growing Generations is known for our high level of customer service and our amazing surrogates. We have a rigorous screening process and only accept 1% of the women who apply to be surrogates in our program. So the women who become Growing Generations surrogates have a level of maturity, stability, commitment and dedication that is astounding. They are truly the most giving people you could ever meet.

We pride ourselves in taking excellent care of our amazing staff who in turn take excellent care of our intended parents, surrogates and donors. We live by a set of service steps and employee promise that guide us.

Assisted reproduction is a team sport! It is a collaboration between a whole lot of people with one goal in mind: helping someone create their family. We work with a wonderful group of outside experts and our GG team is exceptional.

Personally, my biggest cheerleader is my wife of 35 years–Natalie who is always by my side. I am incredibly grateful that my business partner, Stuart is also my best friend. What a life–helping people know the greatest joy in life–parenthood and doing it with people that I love.
