Meet Kiiyonna Jones of Luxe Beauty and Wellness Boutique in Artesia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiiyonna Jones.

Kiiyonna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I ALWAYS knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, however, that dream was stifled when I became pregnant at 17. I pushed my dreams to the side for a short while in order to attend college (USC undergrad, UCLA graduate, and USD Ph.D.) to provide for my daughter. Needless to say, the perseverance, drive, and ambition that it took to complete my education in order to provide for my daughter fueled my entrepreneurial hunger and provided me with additional tools that would ultimately be tapped into when I decided to open my business.

I am a wife with a blended family of five. I have been a Registered Nurse for over 11 years. During this time, I have worked in various capacities as a bedside nurse, Professor, and Administrative nurse. Although I had a strong desire to be in the entrepreneurial space, I was not exactly sure how to reach that goal. Ultimately, last year I finally decided to open a beauty and wellness boutique where we specialize in permanent makeup, vitamin infusions and injections, and other beauty services. Our clientele are from all walks of life and enjoy the benefit of having an experienced registered nurse perform these procedures for them in a high-end posh boutique. Opening my own business has been a challenge, as there is a steep learning curve. However, it has been so rewarding and beneficial for myself as well as my family.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle has been shifting my mindset from worker to entrepreneur. As you can imagine, when you work, there is a false sense of security because you know, or at least you think you know, you will receive a paycheck and you usually know how much it will be. However, when you are an entrepreneur, you have to be willing to take a significant pay cut in order to invest in your business for it to grow. Another obstacle is being able to sell your product or service you have to understand that it does not matter how wonderful it is, if you do not get in front of the right people who will consume your product/service, it will not sell. When you are starting a small business you have to be prepared for the long haul and be open to learning and learning quickly, in order to ensure success of your business.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Luxe Beauty and Wellness Boutique – what should we know?
Luxe Beauty and Wellness Boutique is a boutique that is a one-stop-shop for most of the beauty needs of its clients. Luxe offers permanent makeup, Vitamin injections and infusions, teeth whitening, tooth jewelry, and we also sell our own Luxe Yoni products. Most medical spas specialize in one area of beauty, whereas, Luxe offers a variety of services which are not limited to the medical industry, the owner has been 3x certified in Ombré Brows as well as Microblading.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
As an entrepreneur, the most important characteristic is the mindset. You have to be mentally prepared for the ebbs and flows of starting your own business. With that said, regardless of what is seen on social media, it takes perseverance, determination, ambition, and drive to weather the storms as success does not happen overnight. Each of these necessary qualities is grounded and rooted in having a positive mindset.
